Here’s the problem. Most of the time when starting my truck, it won’t start up the first time. It’ll start right up on the second time. I’ve tried turning the ignition on and waiting 10 seconds before starting-same problem. This problem has been going on for over a year.

Battery and starting system checks out okay. I just can’t figure out that the problem is and I really don’t want to take it on any trips if it might break down because of this.

FWIW, My 2000 Blazer used to do that. The fuel pressure regulator was so close to mininum allowable spec (a QC problem) that it would not always push open the injectors. Sometimes I needed to crank it and crank it and use starting fluid. Once it got going and warmed up, the problem would go away for a while--sometimes months, sometimes days.

How long do you hold the key in the start position? I had success with this issue by holding the starter for just a second or 2 longer, assuming you are not already holding it for 5 seconds or something.

Does it crank? Or just not fire? - Try a different key - maybe a security key issue BCU not recognising key impedance- a well known problem.

Could be any # of things, have you changed the fuel filter in the last year or two? Could posibly be feul pump starting to go bad do you run below 1/4 of a tank of gas frequently? Have run some Techron FI cleaner through it? Any "check engine light"? Go have it scanned for any stored codes @ AAP,Autozone just to name a couple.

By that year, the factory Suburban fuel pump 'O' ring problems should have been solved. But they did have chronic pump problems because of this.
What gets me is the fact that turning the key on doesn't help.

A real pressure check is needed.
