01 Jetta brake problem

OK heres the deal. 01 jetta 1.8t. The "BRAKE" light on the dash is lit up and sounding a buzzer constantly when i drive like the hand brake is on. I checked the handbrake switch and the low brake fluid switch in the master cylinder and they are both functioning correctly. I have been told that the abs wheel sensors could cause this? Any help is tremendously appreciated.

What does your owners manual say about the BRAKE light? With most cars a bad ABS signal would trip an ABS light.

Your car may be equipped with the low pad material sensor, so your pads are almost worn out and the sensor is triggering the alarm.

BTW, what possessed VW to combine the warning light with the stupid buzzer?? I mean do you really need to feel like the engine is about to explode, when really you're just low on windshield fluid??

Either a low pad sensor or the ABS. My 01 Impala had an issue with the one of the ABS sensors and the light would intermittently come on and off. Taking it to the dealer fixed it(replaced the sensor).

The pad sensors or ABS would illuminate their own special lights. If the red light what spells 'BRAKE' is on and a buzzer, that's your handbrake. Check the switch & fuse.

That feature cracks me up every time to this day. Fortunately, it is fixed in the MKV!

The pads are ok I checked them as well yesterday. They have a different light. I have checked the handbrake switch out as well. Im gonna find that buzzer and destroy it.

No, really. It's the handbrake switch 100%. That's the only thing which will cause what you're describing. Fix the switch, don't disable the buzzer.
