01 Ford Taurus with Schaeffer's 703

Testing done by Progressive Oil Sample Testing,(A service of Titan Laboratories) kit purchased at NAPA.
Car previously ran Motorcraft 5w20,changed every 3000mi, was purged with Neutra before running Schaeffer's.Car is usually driven 30 mi. daily back and forth to work,some town mostly highway. This sample has some 300 to 600 trips on it.Car had 31,000 mi. at the time of testing.No oil was added during interval.Oil was changed the day after I pulled his sample(02/08/03), and is running 703 again.

I'm disappointed to see it's thinned out to a 20wt! I've never seen that happen with 10w30 Supreme, and there is no fuel dilution here either.

Wear metals are good other than lead though.

Is that motor making noise on start up ? With the moly that did not uptake evidently you drive the car pretty easy.

Is this a older stock SJ oil?

Lead = OUCH !

I would call the Oil Sample company and verify they did not make a mistake on the Lead. Possibly they got the Iron and lead switched. But otherwise good numbers. Viscosity drop is disapointing. To bad there is no TBN or Oxidation.

Quite honestly, I have a hard time believeing the viscosity drop. There has to be some reason for this and without some of the other info, I question their lab results. If that had come from Schaeffers, blackstones, dyson or just about any others, I might accept it as they all have been testing schaeffers so I know they have a good base line virgin sample of schaeffers oils to compare with, but I don't think I have seen Titan to have tested schaeffers oil so myself, with this kind of drop, I definatly would question this.. Even if schaeffers lab came back with this, I would make them re run that test. If it was in a toyota, then I could see this possibly happening but not in a ford.

I have never seen schaeffers oil come out of grade with out a reason and since I run an escort, under a lot of heavy conditions and easy like, I have not seen that problem in mine.

I currently am running the 5w30 conventional schaeffers with a fram filter to see just how the wear numbers will be affected due to flow restriction. All my previous tests where with the 15w40.

As soon as I get 4k miles on this current oil, I will be posting the results on how flow affects wear.

I called the lab and was told they dispose of the samples after testing.

unless you request they do otherwise, The kit's only cost $8 at a local NAPA, on my next order of Schaeffer's I'm getting some kit's also and should be retesting in midsummer.
