I am going to change out all the fluids and filters on a 2000 Silverado 5.3 2wd. It has 35k miles and no mechanical problems. It has had yearly synthetic oil changes. Usually what ever syn is on sale.

Your thoughts and opinions on the following options for the engine....

Quaker State Synthetic
Pennzoil Platinum
Mobil 1 High Mileage
Mobil 1 Extended Performance
M1 Truck-SUV
Valvoline MaxLife

thanks for your input

Pennzoil Ultra or PP! I have the same engine and by far, these two have run the best. M1 and M1 T&S are excellent choices, and I have ran both, but I found my engine to be a bit sluggish on the Mobil products. Castrol conventional and Syntec both ran like garbage in my trucks. Never been much of a Valvoline fan, but some guys swear by them. QS would do well and is usually priced to sell. This is my third Chevy with this engine and I always liked to try different oils, but my Pennzoil fills have always produced great results. Just filled with PU 500 miles ago. Hands down, smoothest, and quietest my engine has ever been!

Oh yeah!? I got a friend with a 70 307 with 412k with 27k OCI's with the cheapest dino available over the past 40 years. No consumption whatsoever. In fact, it manufacturers its own oil. Over the years his sump refresh fill has DECREASED. Now it only takes about 2 quarts to reach the FULL mark on the dipstick.

Top that!!!

Islandvic: With 3.5k average annual mileage, I don't think you can go wrong with anything. PP would probably be my choice just out of its typical price advantage. Sales and close outs would probably alter that.

The M1 High Milage Syn is API SL rated, so that seems interesting, may have a better additive package then the SM rated oils, and the 2000 5.3 can use the API SL rated oil....

simple_gifts, the truck is only driven an average of 3-5k miles a year, I drive more....

5sfe91, I'll stick to Syn because I have use Syn since the second oil change. High heat, high humidity, age are a few reasons for sticking with syn, plus i plan on keeping the truck for literally as long as I can....

I think I tried M1 for 2 OCI's back in '03-'04. It seemed I could hear the piston slap more with M1. I then used Valvoline MaxLife Full Synthetic and it seemed to reduce the piston slap noise. I think Ive used QS Horespower and Penn Platinum the last few OCI's because of rebates or sales....

any additional opinions and experiences are welcome

thanks
