I just submitted a “free” Form 1 for a KE Arms monolithic polymer AR lower. It sure was nice not having to pull out my credit card and give the Treasury $200 for the privilege of having a < 16” barrel. Having a digital photo and an electronic fingerprint file made the whole process very smooth.

I’m honestly quite surprised I was able to complete a submission because I fully expected that the first day rush would have reduced their servers to a quivering puddle of electrons.

A lot of gun shops have been using scare tactics towards people who are planning to wait, saying "the wait times will be crazy long", so I'm convinced that sales have really dropped on items like suppressors. They'll no doubt pick up tomorrow (presuming most shops are closed today).

My first tax stamp was a paper Form 1 in 2013 that took 13 months to be approved. I'm used to the long game.

Wait times for down to 2-5 days for the median time frame for a number of weeks in January and have skyrocketed to .... 13 days (as I type this). I ended up buying a suppressor on Friday and the guy could cite the process in his sleep. I asked him how often he does this every day and he said "a lot". I have noticed that prices have went up too, which is disappointing as I thought the demand would increase, more suppliers, and lower prices. I got lucky in that I've been putting this off (actually - I had gift cards and cash from Christmas but kept forgetting it) and when I decided to go, I checked their website and they'd raised the price on the one I'd decided on by $100. They forgot to update the price tag in the display case though, which they honored.

Anyway, in less than 12 hours, the 2nd to last step was approved (at 3:17am, Saturday morning). I have to go back and "certify" the form (???) and then wait for final approval. That means (3) trips to the store.... 🤨

I believe short barrel shotguns fall into this $0 tax stamp as well . The new Mossberg SBS offering with a 14” barrel would be ideal for home defense use.

My nephew Brian B. personally solved the goverment server crashing problem with large numbers of applicants right before the rool-out of Obama Care, specifically so the servers could handle that huge numbers of new applicants back then.

Yet you might have paid $200 more for the lower because there's no tax

10 business days and still waiting.... I did go for a "trust" instead of individual and those typically take longer. In my case, there's no one else listed currently so I'd think they'd effectively treat it like an individual application.

According to this page, https://www.silencershop.com/atf-wait-times, the wait times can still be as quick as 1-2 days, though those seem to be the exception, while the longest wait is slowly increasing.

I bought a new silencer on 1-31 and the approval came back 2-14.

Individual. My first stamps were to a family trust but trust is too much of a pain now that they require photos and prints from everyone.
I don't know how it's handled in every situation, but I used Silencer Shop and I can add people after the fact. As of right now, my submission only has me listed so it's not like they have to review and approve multiple people. It's mainly just for my son so he can borrow it or keep it someday cleanly. He's planning to buy items as well so he'll have to get the fingerprints and photo anyway.

I just bought two more - a Dead Air RXD22TI and a Dead Air RXD910TI. Both in the existing Trust.

The “long pole in the tent“ is not the ATF, it is the availability of appointments at my selected dealer to certify the form 4.

They are booking over a month out due to high volume.

Once I certify the form 4 with them, then I expect the ATF to approve in a couple of weeks.
