I bought my Accord in 2001 and the battery is still strong. It starts every time and all the time without any hesitation. I can't say the same for the AAP battery in my Corolla, which I think is pure junk. I just replace that with a Costco battery and won't look back.

Be wary of that battery. The Delco battery in my Buick went 8 years just fine, then left me stranded one bitterly cold night in upstate NY without warning. Thankfully I was near home and could borrow my parent's car to get an EverStart (Johnson Controls in that neck of the woods) replacement at 1:30 in the morning.
I would say you got your $$$ worth .
Agreed. At least I would get it tested, just to be sure it has enough juice left.
I've gor nearly six years out of the Delco in my Cav. I'm planning to test it anyways. Granted I'm not exactly worried yet (3rd car), but if it is pretty close, I might just pick up an everstart....

My 06 Accord battery just gone bad. The replacement group 51 battery cost $110 at Napa, and it is about half the size of the other batteries on the shelf. Nuts!!!

My mother's 97 plymouth breeze still has its original battery and it is going strong.
If treated right, 10+ years is very doable!

My Tercel (which was a family hand-me-down) had almost 12 years on the original battery. It was still powerfully cranking when I replaced it. It must have developed cracks around the positive terminal causing it to corrode really fast, and eventually I wore it down so much from cleaning that I couldn`t get the cable to clamp down tightly enough anymore.
I do wonder how much longer it would have started the car if I had put a sleeve over the terminal to tighten the cable instead of replacing the battery, but getting stuck somewhere in the middle of winter to satisfy curiosity and save a few bucks isn`t worth it in my book.
If my new battery lasts half that long I`d be satisfied.

I have always wondered why Honda loves these tiny little batteries so much. Yours clearly didnt last long, is this usually the case or did you just get a bad one

Sam's club has group 51 Energizer for $49, group 51R is $55.

I know. The battery in the late model 4cylinder Accords look like it was for a motorcyle lol. I guess some of them still hold up, but seems like a rip off to me.

The Delco in my Camaro just about hit 7 years when it died on me. Gave me absolutely no warning either. Strong cranks right up to the day it croaked.
You are doing great with your battery life.
But start shopping now, if you are keeping the car.

My in-laws traded in their 1998 Maxima last year w/ the factory Sanyo battery in it still. That's 10+ years. I've routinely seen them last 6-8yrs in the N.East. From what you read, it seems like the hot climates kill batteries much quicker.

If you look at some of the Accord forum site they list the parts needed to chancge the small battery to the larger v6 battery....
Does anyone know if a 51r series Optima will fit in exactly in the Honda with no modifications to the housing or the terminals????
Got 13 years out from my Sentra's battery. The key is to keep the top clean to prevent the slow and constant minor discharge across the terminals. Dirt, oils and road grime are conductive. Once or twice a year I take out a battery and wash it clean with soap and water.

We also did over 10 on our 94 previa's OE panasonic battery. Replacements have been lousy, we have gone through at least two since 2004. There was no reason to replace the 10yo battery when we did - just thinking it was a smart move. In reality, it has just cost us an extra $100 compared to what we could have done.
