Castrol Edge 0W-40 vs. Motul 5W-40 vs. Red Line 0W-40 for Heavily Tuned BMW M5

Please define what are "stronger rod bearings". What were your clearances after you installed the rod caps? I assume you used plastiguage and checked the crank with a mic. As you stated your old bearings looked good with BMW oil and Castrol, here in America BMW oil is made by Castrol since 2021...

5W-30 synthetic for Gen 1 SBC with roller cam

We ran a 383 stroker on dirt with push rod guide plates, and Comp Cams roller tip rocker arms, and showed minimal wear at 4500 to 6200 rpm with Mobil 1 15w 50. But our timing chain and gears looked terrible. The following year we used Delvac 1 15w 40 with the same setup and it looked great on...

    Dexos 2 discontinued in 2025

Isn't the only GM car that requires Dexos R is the C8 Corvette? I believe it is Mobil 1 ESP 0w 40. Correct me if I'm wrong???

0w-30/5w-30 in a 2024 crosstrek and subaru timing chains

Here is a compromise... just use Mobil1 0w30 AFE. Previous UOAs have shown it will shear down over time to a high 8 Cts anyway. And it SHOULD be 2.9 Hths as it starts as a 30w. Any warranty work UOA should come back as a high 20w. For the record, I service a 2004 Escape w/ a Duratec 3.0 with...

    Tempted to try........

That sounds good, should work out great for you. I have never tried a ceramic coating. When I can buy Seal n Shine at these prices.... Followed up with Ice spray. I use the Mother's Surface prep once a year, to remove my previous coatings, followed up with SnS. Ice spray to maintain. Does it...

New to me John Deere Z915e zero turn mower.

All the above recommendations are spot on as far as oil goes. Any 15w40 is good. The most important thing is... after the mowing season, is to run it completely out of gas. Add a 1/4 gallon or so.. of AV gas 100LL. Drive where you are going to store it, Put on a Battery Tender ( or equivalent)...

Eco, normal, sport modes; difference? Does it matter?

Exactly right. With my Ridgeline, over 45 mph I open my rear window and my sunroof and that creates good airflow without the air "buffering" with the windows down. Even in 85 to 90f in northern Ohio that's ok. In town.. I close them and use AC. Eco mode does nothing for me but engage VCM. In a...

Shell Rotella T4 15w-40 Now SN Rated

Please correct me if I'm wrong... but aren't W-40 oils exempt from API ZDDP limits? If so, is that the reason Shell is claiming SN? After all, T6 claimed JASO MA until recently. Off topic... I ride a Honda VTX 1800 and my clutch never slipped with T6. If anything would slip a clutch.... that...

    5w-30 for new Honda 3.5L v6

I would and do use Pennzoil Platinum 5w30 in my Ridgeline. It is a relatively "thin" 30w. If you short trip that vehicle it will have "some" fuel dilution. It's not to the dilution of a 1.5 Honda, but it is there..if you short trip it. Pennzoil being on the low end of a 30 weight will be more...

    Fram Extraguard cartridge collapsed

Very true. Even with BMW OEM filters, they need to be "clearanced" with the cap. Meaning the cap must push down thru the top hole of the filter before installing. Failure to do that could cause this same problem.

    Garage Sale find...QPower5w50

That's a great idea, that's why I posted this. Because I wasn't sure what I was going to do with this stuff... I have a L120. Thanks.. 👍

I have an original 1965 Chevelle with 26,000 miles. Should I just use a conventional motor oil?

I would consider non synthetic Valvoline 10w40 motorcycle oil. $8 a quart at Walmart. High ZDDP should work good for you. Frankly it really doesn't matter what you use conventional or synthetic, the cork gaskets will probably start to leak. Especially around the intake manifold on your timing...

    Garage Sale find...QPower5w50

I got 10 qts at a garage sale for 1$. Anyone know the history and chemistry of this oil. It is a SOPUS product. PAO or just high VII to get the viscosity range? 🤷

    Honda Civic Type R FK8 K20C1 - OEM Engine type 2.0 - 9017 km

I really didn't know what it cost. I just assumed it was cheaper in DE. That's really crazy when you think about it, Mobil is cheaper in De vs. Ravenol that is made there???? Who would have thought that?

    2016 Civic Type R FK2 K20C1 - Honda Engine Type 2.0 0W20 - 2743 km Race track

I don't think he really means "destroy" He is a German driver that runs the hell out of the car. Redline all the time, full boost ect. I know the mentality......I have been there done that. He knows he is thrashing that car and wants the best protection for it. But he needs to understand that a...

    2016 Civic Type R FK2 K20C1 - Honda Engine Type 2.0 0W20 - 2743 km Race track

I think you are overthinking this. Shell Helix Ultra 5w-40 should be perfect for both Nürnberg-Ring and street use. After a hard run on the track, check your oil pressure at idle. If it's good... no need for thicker oil than 40w. Viel Spaß auf der Strecke. Rundenzeiten?

    Schaeffer's Simplex Supreme in Kubota

I'm kinda leaning towards your way of thinking. But the viscosity of Super Udt2 is so low @100c compared to the other "Universal" THFs had me concerned. The majority of the work of my Kubota is 2900 RPM, wide open, mowing with a 6 ft finish mower, In 70 to 90° weather. Believe me that little...

    Schaeffer's Simplex Supreme in Kubota

Yes. I am seriously considering this over the factory Kubota (Valvoline) oil.
