"Old" production date tires worth the discount?

At least 5 years of usage at 50% discount, I would do it if I am shopping for snow tires.

Subaru Oil Filter Fitment Choices - any Subaru oil filter experts out there ?

There was a shortage a couple of years ago, didn't know this is happening again. Wonder if this is a Gen II BRZ/86 only or across their lineup.

What are these dark spots on my front rotor?

Brake rotors don't actually "warp", that's a misnomer (https://alconkits.com/blogs/news/the-real-truth-about-warped-brake-rotors). The vibration is caused by uneven deposit of brake material onto the rotor which leads to uneven contact between the pad and rotor when braking. I think your issue...

What are these dark spots on my front rotor?

I think that is from the pad material being transferred to the rotor. With most cars, you can replace the pads and just resurface the rotors but normally, not the other way around as in replacing the rotors and keep the old pads on.

Would you replace this tire due to cracks?

    I would replace them.

F1 news: Aston Martin partners with Valvoline, displays unique livery for British GP

Not that it really matters but wondering if this partnership will continue next season with Honda. Also wondering if this will trickle down to their dealerships/street cars.

    OCI for 2004 Volvo S40

Even know you quoted me, but you obviously still missed the "IMO" in the quote. There is no need to get personal here and in OP's case, the oil has been in the engine for 2 years with a little over 1K miles which some would argue that it is worse than fresh oil just sitting in the engine with no...

    OCI for 2004 Volvo S40

IMO, the oil in the beaker should be considered as a control sample. It does not reflect the contaminants that's in the oil after it has been cycle through the engine, even with minimal use.

    OCI for 2004 Volvo S40

Again, I disagree. But I respect your opinion and how you wish to take care of your own vehicles.

    OCI for 2004 Volvo S40

I disagree. I belong to the camp of 5K miles or once a year interval. IMO, oil will degrade with time, it is more economically feasible to change the oil once a year than dealing with potential issues.

    Q: About today's Mobil 1 0W-40 line up

From the looks of it, I guess not. It is not about one car in particular, just curious as to what the progression is from one generation of Mobil 1 oil to the next.

    Q: About today's Mobil 1 0W-40 line up

Did not realize that there were two different ESP oil at the same time, just thought they are just replacement of the older version. Thanks.

    Q: About today's Mobil 1 0W-40 line up

The problem is that I don't think the approvals follow the oil once it is rebranded. For example, the ESP x 3 0W-40 has a lot more approval than the Super Car 0W-40 does but they are the same oil.

    Q: About today's Mobil 1 0W-40 line up

Thank you. However, isn't the ESP x 3 the one that became Super Car? According to Mobil, the new ESP 0W-40 is ESP x 4. https://www.mobil.com/en/lubricants/for-personal-vehicles/our-products/products/mobil-1-esp-x4-0w-40

    Q: About today's Mobil 1 0W-40 line up

Help me choose a racing oil

M1 Racing 0W-50 or Valvoline VR1 20W-50 (Available in both conventional and synthetic, I would probably go with synthetic). All three can be purchased from places like AutoZone and O'Reilly's. Q: Mobil has two motorcycle specific oil, any reason you are not considering motorcycle oil...

    Mobil 1 0w-40 - Supercar or FS?

Q: Considering the recent formula change to the base oil (Time stamp 12:30) for the 0W-40 FS, has anyone consider going to the 0W-40 Supercar since it is closer in formulation to the previous edition of the 0W-40 FS?

Had to buy a battery today.

Curiously, what is the other worse option, MIL staying the night? Some would pay double or even triple that price just to make sure she goes home, safely of course. :)
