Do I need to Change Oil

My 2012 Prius C has been parked in my garage for over 3 years. During this period, I started the car once every 3 - 4 months to check/charge the hybrid battery. Now I plan to take it out of garage and start to drive it daily soon. Do I really need to change the oil before driving? The oil was...

    PCV and Oil Catch Can

Sorry for the late reply. Under normal conditions, your approach is the right way. But I don't want to remove the intake manifold every time I check/replace the PCV valve. That is why I want to swap the PCV valve with the OCC outlet fitting. Basically the blow-by vapor goes through the OCC...

    PCV and Oil Catch Can

Many people believe PCV design is one of the major factors that cause excessive oil consumption in a Gen-3 Prius after 150K miles. This excessive oil consumption results in EGR circuit clogged up. One proposal is to add an oil catch can. In a normal placement, the oil catch can is placed after...

With all due respect, it is maybe a good idea to watch the video before rejecting its statement. Or better yet, please share your data of pumping time vs. temperature. I am here to learn.

Why do some cars call for 5W20, not 0W20?

Just took a peek at that thread. It is a very long one with over 10 page discussions. So my comment here could be well premature. It is hard to draw conclusions from a single graph without having access to the full paper. If the test did not simulate a cold start but just a stable operation...

Why do some cars call for 5W20, not 0W20?

I'd like to thank everybody's participation in the discussion of "Why do some cars call for 5W20, not 0W20". Somehow along the line the discussion was shifted to "Is 0W20 better than 5W20 for startup wear". Sorry for the drift. Based on the discussion, I'd conclude this thread as follows: A...

Why do some cars call for 5W20, not 0W20?

Thank everybody for the discussion. Looks like it is disputable whether 0W is more beneficial than 5W, but it is kind of off topic. My question was/is why cannot we use 0W20 instead of 5W20? Is there any drawback to use 0W20 to replace 5W20 from an engineering point of view?
