    GM Silverado/Sierra 1500 2.7 GTDI Inline 4?

I’m approaching 13k miles on this truck ow and have been using Mobil 1 ep 5w-30 in it. I’m switching to 0w-30 next oil change since our temps drop below -20 frequently. So far so good, we love the truck and it’s a beast in the snow. We got over 20” the last 4 days and has been 40mph winds for...

Best oil for Chevy 2.7 in ND winter

Yeah, I wouldn’t use a type of oil not listed as acceptable in the manual, it’s why I mentioned it in the original post. I was asking what 0w-30 oil do y’all think flows the best in sub -20f weather, sorry about the confusion. Yes the pan is plastic and it is honey comb textured so the glue on...

Best oil for Chevy 2.7 in ND winter

So I live on the Canadian border in the cold area in the continental US. We get below -30F every winter and days (all day) below -20 f every year. I have a new 2022 silverado with the new 2.7 HO engine (which I love), they couldn’t put an engine block heater in her because the parts weren’t...

So we're all buying Toyotas now 🤔

Here’s hoping for 400k! I wonder if my results with ow-20 synthetic were due to the thin oil or the fact that I changed it more regularly and it’s synthetic so it cleaned better. My Corolla’s oil consumption was basically gone by the time my son wrecked the car and it ran like a top!

0W-20 vs 5W-30 synthetics in cold temps

It gets down below -30f here every year. I have 0w oil in the vehicles by then minus tractors ect…. It makes a difference below 0f. When it gets below -30f everything is affected, you can really hear it in your shocks.

Trying to find a good marine grease for trailer bearings that work in cold temps

I’m using Lucas marine grease here in ND on my tractors and snow blowers among other things now. We’ll see how it goes this winter.

    Snow blower season

Just put my 6’ blower on my tractor today. Topped the gear box off, greased the 20 fittings, waxed the chain and hooked up the hydraulic hoses, function checker her and was all good. Hope we don’t need it soon.

Post your latest small engine oil change

Changed the oil on my predator 212 backwater surface drive boat motor build. I doubt it has even 2 hours on it. The oil has been changed a couple times already. There’s still a good amount of glitter in the oil. Not sure how many hours of use before glitter is abnormal? Changed with qs 5w-40...

Effects of running predator 212 at an angle, lack of lubrication?

I picked up some synthetic QS 5w-40 euro oil at Walmart I’m going to run in it and see if it starts easily on cold mornings, seems like a good compromise.

Effects of running predator 212 at an angle, lack of lubrication?

I live up along the Canadian border actually, I went out yesterday and started my morning hunt at 33f and ended at close to 60f. It’ll never run much below 27f as the water freezes up at that point and makes it impossible to launch the boat. I hunt small lakes called prairie potholes so they...

Effects of running predator 212 at an angle, lack of lubrication?

During the break in I ran conventional bass pro shop 10w-30 marine oil and one morning when it was in the low 20’s it was pretty stiff but was able to start her no problem, I switched to 5w-30 supertech synthetic oil as I have jugs of it sitting around, the difference was noticeable. So do y’all...

Effects of running predator 212 at an angle, lack of lubrication?

Another question while we are on the 212 mud motor, it pretty cold on my morning hunts and have switched to synthetic 5w-30 oil, I have tons laying around. I’m thinking it’s pretty thin oil and was contemplating switching to amsoil 10w-30 or 10w-40 and see if I encounter any hard starts. The...

Effects of running predator 212 at an angle, lack of lubrication?

Ok, good to know, I’ll stop worrying about it but still keep a couple paddles on hand just in case lol. I love the set up, it gets me into spots I had only dreamed of going before.

Effects of running predator 212 at an angle, lack of lubrication?

The low oil sensor is disconnected, since it will randomly shut the unit down in chop/turns ect…I just don’t want to be out 5 miles in a marsh and lose a bearing on the plus side I know others are using it and have never heard of one failing do to oil starvation. I do add more oil to it than...

Effects of running predator 212 at an angle, lack of lubrication?

I built a mud motor with a backwater 6.5hp ultralight kit. I used a predator 212 engine as there was nothing else available at the time. It’s mounted on a 12’ Jon boat and works great but I worry about the longevity of the engine since it is running constantly at a 10-20 degree angle. Will the...

Synthetic oil bad in a lawnmower? Any truth in this self proclaimed experts statements?

I live in a pretty extreme environment, unfortunately I do have to start small engines in sub-zero (-35f is not uncommon) temps on occasion, usually in an emergency like starting generators during a power outage in blizzards ect... It’s actually pretty serious business because there’s no one to...

Nonstop Running (8th day) for EU2000

Buying essential supplies cheap and stacking them deep is not a mental disease. It’s foresight. I think it’s nuts not to be prepared and frankly oil is a tangible asset that’s a pretty good investment in our current economy. Waiting till something happens and panic buying is a whole different...

Synthetic oil bad in a lawnmower? Any truth in this self proclaimed experts statements?

I was starting the mud motor on my boat the other day (212 predator engine 6.5hp) in 24 degree temperatures. Sure was glad I had switched it to synthetic oil, it was hard enough to pull over with the stiff grease in the drive shaft. Low temps and high temps are where synthetic oil shines but you...
