How many of you check TIR & DTV on new rotors?

I've checked it when I had a pulsating brake pedal.

2025 4Runner reviewed by Doug DeMuro

I elected to buy another 5th gen rather than wait to see a 6th gen. Now that I've seen a 6th gen, I prefer the 5th gen interior and exterior styling.

Buying things that will last you the rest of your life.

Investments have been AMZN, MSFT, META, GOOG, NVDA, TSM, Small Cap ETF, a variety of cannabis stocks CGC, ACB, etc. I'll buy AAPL is it holds 168-169, I'll buy TSLA if it holds 161, and then advances and holds 180.

Pick one car if you had to made it last the rest of your life.

I already have my choice, a 2011 4Runner with 128k. I bought a second 4Runner in case one or the other is lost due to a collision.

    What was your shortest employment?

Walked off a summer job in the 70's spray painting furnace heat exchangers when the ventilation fan broke down and supervisor told me it would take a week or so to repair.

API versus Euro oil, for the same engine

A 2023 Toyota 4Runner USA owners manual recommends 0W20 changed every 12 months or 10k miles. The manual also states, "an oil with a higher viscosity may be better suited if the vehicle is operated at high speeds, or under extreme load conditions". Do you have similar wording in your owners...

Drain and refill fluid substitute for Toyota WS?

I exchanged 12 quarts from OEM fill to Maxlife at 100k on a 4Runner. No issues at all after 28k on Maxlife. I'm a member of a popular forum, toyota-4runner and searched it prior to changing the fluid. Many of the members use Maxlife and none reported any issues with it. One member in particular...

    What's considered an old car?

Depends on vehicle reliability, parts availability, maintenance history, mileage, make and model. I recently sold a 24 year-old Nissan Maxima that I considered to be old. Quality parts availability became a strong consideration in the decision to sell. I kept ownership costs low over the years...

The death of the auto enthusiast.

I'm enthusiastic for reliability, simplicity, utility and access to DIY maintenance and repair information. The older 4Runner still puts a smile on my face as it runs and drives like when it was new after 13 years of routine maintenance.

Genuine Toyota Inner Axle Grease Equivanlent?

I suggest contacting a shop in your area that rebuilds driveline components for cars and trucks. They probably buy grease in bulk. What color was the grease that leaked out? I suspect they may recommend thoroughly cleaning the joint first.

Anyone else having a white Christmas this year?

“Happy Holidays” is a phrase commonly used during the festive season, especially around Christmas. I'm not addressing a specific person, so by writing Happy Holidays to whoever reads this post, I'm acknowledge that different people come from various cultural backgrounds and religious traditions...

    5W30 In ‘20 Corolla 1.8L ?

Apparently, I should have verified what I found in a BITOG post. Well then, do the engines that specify 0W-16 have pressure control valves operated via ECM?

    5W30 In ‘20 Corolla 1.8L ?

Newer Toyota's that specify 0W-16 have an electric oil pump designed to maintain lubrication with a low viscosity oil as stated in a BITOG post.

    5W30 In ‘20 Corolla 1.8L ?

I have 5W-30 in a 2011 Toyota 4Runner Trail even though the manual specifies 0W-20. My 2023 4Runner will have 0W-20 genuine Toyota motor oil during the warranty period and then switch over to 5W-30. The way I see it, 0W-20 is at the very bottom end of the allowable worldwide viscosity range and...
