Thank you. It has been a bit pricey, but he has learned a great deal! :giggle:

Of course, we will! (I have been a member here for about 20 years, but my old user/pass would not work I suppose after a site upgrade) It is evident in the pictures that 15000 miles of short changes has not made any difference in the top end. I asked my son what he thought looking at it and he...

I suppose this was not directed towards me but could apply. Sort of a pain and have to replace gaskets to get to both valve covers on this guy. Way back in this thread someone asked if we were going to open it back up and I thought many might be interested to see the affects after all the...

I suppose at this point we have to hope the total sludge clean-up in that area helped. Think a quart of HPL Engine Cleaner might give this area a better chance?

After the timing chain was replaced, the noise was still heard especially under load at low RPM. So, my son wanted to have a look under the valve covers. One rocker arm nut was a bit loose. He then started all over and hand tightened all of the nuts when the valve spring had zero tension and...

I suppose we should have removed that while we were in there. Would that have helped? We cleaned everything else reachable including behind the distributor gear. Suppose that should have come out at that time as well to clean in out better. We are amateurs after all.

Can you possibly place an arrow on our picture that shows where the oil should be coming from?

It was a concern for sure. We cleaned off all of the sludge and pushed a bottle brush up all the way into the valve cover; we thought that is where the oil is supposed to come from to oil the chain.

So, the truck is at about 15,000 miles since we got the beast. Some noise prompted a timing chain replacement. Here are the pictures. Chain was well past done and had a ton of slack.

M1 was dumped and Castrol 5w-30 Edge was added with a Fram XG filter.

So here is another chapter with a correction as the last Motorcraft filter change was at 132,500 miles. This oil/filter change is at 135k with about 2500 miles on the filter and 5000 on the Mobil 1 5w-30. Castrol 5w-30 Edge was added with a Fram XG filter. The Edge jugs cost us a little over $2...

The last sub $4 FL-1A we got from Walmart, they are $10 now.

So now the truck has 131,500 miles on it, son has put about 11,500 miles. The other day he recorded 21 mpg. The pictures show M1 5-30 extended with 2,300 miles on the Motorcraft filter. Filter got stuck on the block, so it got a bit mangled. Oil was not changed as a new filter was installed to...

Here are the intake ports/top of the valves with a few swipes with a dry rag.

2012 Honda Fit 96k Under Valve Cover

We did not remove the cowl, those that do buy the replacement tabs as they are said to break easily. NGK says no anti-seize on the threads.

2012 Honda Fit 96k Under Valve Cover

Time for spark plugs and apparently coils as they are corroded. Son did all of the work and we adjusted the valves, all exhausts were tight at about .006. Adjusted to .012, nearly all of the intake valves were right on .006. The cover was just removed so no cleaning was done, just snapped some...

That is where we are currently. 5k oil interval with 2.5k filter changes and look to see how full the underpants get. ;)

Yes, this round was Pennzoil Platinum. I see no reason to add anything to clean as the oil alone seems to be washing it out and into the filter. We put in M-1 5w-30 HM extended this time, got cheap with rebate, along with another Motorcraft filter. The anti-drain back valve was not that pliable...

Today with another oil change. 5k on the oil and 3k on the FL1A filter. (PP was the oil.) Lot of junk still coming out, amazing. Will it ever end? No string on this filter, one of the last in the stash of the $3 Walmart filters. Just more sludge...
