    Ford: Quality equal to Toyota

You are welcome. I don't have to back my statements up because the past decades of reliability data collected by multiple indiviual firms prove it. Regardless of how "accurate" it is, it is close to the fact. And sure, "proven to suck" isn't the best way to put it, but again, still close. Facts...

    Ford: Quality equal to Toyota

The toyota 3.0L V6 does have problems beyond oil burning. But I will gurantee you for every oil burning toyota engine, there's 10 DEAD Ford engines. So Toyota is NOT perfect, but at least it's NOT proven to suck and there's no catching up for Toyota to do in ANY aspect of their company and...

    Ford: Quality equal to Toyota

Unfortunately, quality isn't the only problem Ford has on their hands. Now they have caught up on quality, let's talked about profitability, market desirability, how well the company will survive in the long run. With the resources Ford is dumping, improving solely on the quality while the...

    Is oil a polymer?

Prof is fine with anything that's got repeat units and doesn't have lots of "contaminants" in there. Now all that additives in oil, I don't know if it's a good idea in this case. He's pretty much ok with anything, as he actually suggested to another of my fellow grad students to do sillyputty. I...

GM in talks to buy Chrysler

GM is nuts. If they have the money to buy out Chrysler (including Dodge and Jeep), they should just spend it on something more profitable. Plus it will suck for Chrysler as well, getting onboard another leaking ship.

    Is oil a polymer?

Hey guys, I need to do a project in my polymer engineering class and I am interested to do something involving finding DSC and TGA curves of polymers. I was gonna do it on a semi-conductive variation of PMMA my department has been working on but it's too nerdy (and I'm sick and tired of...

Is it less civil on BITOG, or is it just me?

Yup, the weather is so werid this year even astronauts are fighting. I am no expert in oil, that's why I haven't had much post after like 2 years here. I did notice a lot more arguments here, but like others said, there are worse fourms. I still enjoy reading and learning here, and...

Drove the new 2007 Tundra and all competition!!!

I have always liked Toyotas, but if I am to get a 1/2 ton truck, Ford F150 would be my choice. Why? well, there's no question among the 1/2 tons, this tundra will eat the competition alive, especially the Nissan. And that only means the American trucks would be offering even more insane...

    Synlube?

I did a search and all I ended up with was two pretty unrelated threads.

    Synlube?

Hey guys, I recently heard of something called Synlube recently and it's suppose to last something like 15 billion lightyears. Anybody has experience with it? www.synlube.com It's not like I am considering to use it or anything, but it just sounds interesting from a engineering point of view.

    Toyota Oil Filters

I think you are looking at Denso that's made in thailand. Good stuff. But I did recently read somewhere that they have changed the design and it's now not as great.

    New HID's on the way!

I have HID in my highlander. 4300K, Denso ballast, and philips bulbs. It's not all that blue, kinda yellowish-white. The color isn't that great, but the light output is amazing. I have it in the stock reflector housing, and I don't think it's all that bad. Besides, some of the trucks I see on...

Synthetic Oil: Havoline, Pennzoil or Valvoline?

The main thing about high milage oils is that it's suppose to be good for the seals and valves. That is my opinion, and they might have other benefits/disadvantages I don't know about.

Synthetic Oil: Havoline, Pennzoil or Valvoline?

Use Valvoline Maxlife Synthetic if your avalon is 12 years old. It's a pretty good oil considering what it can do for your car. Other than that, you can also consider some dino high milage oils.

How long do you let the dirty oil drain ?

about 10 minutes with the oil being warm. The dripping would usually be pretty show by then. I used to pour in some new oil in there to "flush the old oil out", but stopped doing that as I got lazy.

    Silverstar Ultra's?

I have the ultras and they are fine. I personally like my XtraVisions more, but since I spend close to 50 on these bulbs, I am keeping them. I somehow think that the Silverstars and the Ultras just coated Xtravisions.

Best dino for 1st change in Subaru STI?

I would use Havoline or Cheveron Supereme. Great oil for break in periods.

is it ok to mix dino & synthetic oil

Although a lot of people do it on BITOG, I myself has not yet tried it. I am still in fear of the additives going kaboom.... well not really Kaboom, but I am just not sure what I would be doing. Besides, there are blends out there already, like the 76, motorcraft, durablend, and stuff like that.

WalMart synthetic oil choices. Tundra 4.7

Like others said, your car features an engine that is very well designed and will be fine with almost any oil on the market. As far as synthetic oil in walmart goes, Penn Platinum would be my choice.
