2018 v6 Nissan laughing Hyena when cold

I'll check the tension tonight. It doesn't sound like a belt though but fingers crossed. Bailes1992, if you look up "laughing Hyena" that is what it sounds like

2018 v6 Nissan laughing Hyena when cold

2018 Pathfinder. I first noticed this a couple of winters ago probably around 50k and I'm at almost 110k now. When it's below about 25f on an overnight cold-start there's what sounds almost exactly like a "laughing Hyena" coming from the engine bay and I'm worried it's the water/oil pump. It...

    '13-'20 Pathfinder Hard starting issues

I just realized it doesn't make the popping noise out of the exhaust during a cold start like it used to. Possibly the high pressure fuel pump in the engine bay isn't working correctly. I don't hear it ticking as loud as I remember either.

    '13-'20 Pathfinder Hard starting issues

They aren't known for any chain issues that I know of. I'm thinking of replacing the maf sensor when I can. Engine should be clean, I change the oil every 5k since I bought it with about 25k on it. I've done an oil analysis a few times. I use good quality filters. Right now I have an AEM...

    '13-'20 Pathfinder Hard starting issues

I've seen online that others have this issue on their 2017 but there's no fix that I know of. -Battery is good, it cranks fine -MAF sensor, air filter, throttle body are clean I've tried cycling the ignition on and off, leaving it on for a bit, keeping my foot on the brake too long, taking...

2018 Kia SUV with (apparently) seized V6

I absolutely loved my 2017 Santa Fe V6. Around 110k miles it started gulping oil. I'm talking 5 quarts in a few hundred miles. Dealership was useless and said it was normal believe it or not. Had to get rid of it for a Pathfinder. I still miss it. Its too bad because it was one of my favorite...

    Electrical issue killing engine

I was thinking a ground issue as well since they are all corroded and I had to redo all of them. Also had to repair the ones under the bed in the rear since I had no blinker or brake lights. Before it died again it was revving unusually high before shifting. It will now only start briefly on...

    Electrical issue killing engine

Good points I'll go through all these. It happened at a busy intersection after driving gently so it's definitely not when it's driven hard. If I let it sit a few minutes it'll almost start back up. No codes stores or pending.

    Electrical issue killing engine

I have a 2005 Silverado with an undiagnosed electrical issue. Back in June I started it and after a few seconds, the engine slowly revved up to about 2500rpm and died. It cranked over fine but wouldn't start. I tried a lot but assumed the fuel pump died. Last month I tried starting it again...

    Pistons moved at snail speed

My 2005 legacy gt cranks extremely slow, especially when it's cold. When it's 10 degrees out it seems like it won't start at all.

    Metal smell on cold start

Interesting. I've never smelled it before and haven't smelled it from either cars since. It reminded me of the smell of a dry engine creating a ton of friction.

2015 Passat 1.8. Not driven light, not beat on either.

    Metal smell on cold start

I have a 140k mile '16 Passat 1.8 and an 80k mile '17 Pathfinder 3.5. Both are cared for and not needing maintenance. Let me start with this analogy: You know when someone pulls out in front of you and steps on it with a cold engine, and you can smell metal? Yesterday I started my car when it...

Opinions on Tiny Turbo Charged Engines?

Have a 1.8t Passat 2016. In 139k miles I've changed the pcv valve. Regular maintenance otherwise. In the LONG term it'll probably need more work but it's fun to drive (especially with aftermarket turbo pipes) and gets 34+mpg. Newer VW 1.4 and 1.8 do not require premium fuel either. I used 93...

Help me decide between a few cars

Sorry for the delay, life's been busy. I know everyone's been on the edge of their seats waiting to know the choice between these fine options. I got the Passat. The new "bumper" it needed ended up being everything BUT the bunper. Every trim piece on and under the front end, fender liners...

My experience with Ethanol free gas

I do stick with top tier for my GDI engines. I believe the E0 station is a Citgo but I'd have to double check that as it's just called "Merril's".

My experience with Ethanol free gas

Yikes, I didn't realize it was so much more expensive. It probably equals out though with the increase in miles per tank. The station that has it is a full service and they only list the regular price. I think it was only a few dollars more anyway.

My experience with Ethanol free gas

I saw ethanol-free gas for the first time when I went on a trip to Bar Harbor recently. The closest gas station that offers it is 30 minutes away from anywhere I go, but I think it's worth it. Before I started using it, I always averaged 25-26 mpg and getting about 370 miles a tank during...

Help me decide between a few cars

I go on Facebook. I don't like GM but I know it's comfortable. Really nothing seems to stick out to me more than the Passat. I'm still waiting on the owner to get back to me about picking it up soon. It's 3 hours away so it's kind of difficult to find time for it.
