I've contacted 3 very established and reputable VAG workshops enquiring about DSG service costs. None of them use VW DSG fluid however they can use it upon request. They use Penrite, Liqui Moly and Motul, though I will probably still opt for VW after the recommendations here.

Okay so it's just a preference rather than evidence based feedback. I can understand and appreciate that using OEM fluid works so you wouldn't recommend anything other than. I was just curious as to if if there was any actual testing or results behind it. Is it only dual clutch transmission...

I'm also wondering which DSG oil to use for my Passat R36 with a 6sp DSG. Is the OE oil semi-synthetic? If so, wouldn't a full synthetic from the likes of Redline or Amsoil be a better option?

I ended up getting some Castrol Edge 5W-30 LL fully synthetic 504 00/ 507 00. It's currently on sale over here in Australia for $60/5L. Sometimes it is as low as $45. It should do fine as I intend to change it every 12 months, which is less than 10,000kms

Hi all, I'm just wondering the best oil out there for a VW Passat R36 requiring VW 504 00/ 507 00 spec oil? Motul 8100 & Liquimoly TopTec 4200 both seem decent from what I've read Thanks!

Well I actually ended up getting a 2003 Camry with the 4 cylinder 2ZA-FE which calls for 15,000km intervals under normal conditions or 7,500km under sever driving conditions. Knowing this, I now feel pretty safe with 15,000km intervals running a quality synthetic. Please correct me if I am wrong

Just wondering why cars from say mid to late 90's have way shorter oil change intervals compared to today's cars? Cars from the 90's are normally every 5k-7k kms where as today 15k-20k kms isn't unnormal. Is it just due to the higher quality synthetic oils available today compared to mineral...

From my understanding Toyota oil is manufactured by Valvoline. Well over here in Australia it is anyway
