    Kohler Courage XT-6 Question

The auto-choke assembly of the early xt-6 was a joke and Kohler reps just roll their eyes when mentioned. I have had several Kohler engines this year that start then die - the carbs all looked spotless. They engines ran great after soaking the carbs in the ultrasonic cleaner.

    New Briggs -- I'm stumped

Reduce the spark plug gap to .020. Is the oil grey with metal particles? Is the compression at least 50 psi? Stuck intake valve? Sheared flywheel key?

Oil for Honda Generator. Techs? Anyone who knows

Talked with the Honda service rep for my area about Honda oil. He's been to the plant that mixes the oil to Honda's specs. According to him everything from the base stock to the additive package is tailored for air-cooled small engines. I bought two 55 gallon barrels for the shop to use in...

    Kohler SV470-620 Oil Spec

I have already shortblocked three Kohler Courage Singles this year! On all three, rod knock followed by throwing a rod. All had clean oil and crankcase. Cooling fins not blocked. Customers were using 10w-30 per the manual. I strongly recommend a good 40w or 50w like Rotella, Delo, Mobil 1. I...

    Recommended Viscosity Observations

This topic is driving me crazy. I have a 2014 Fiesta ST - the ST supplement manual says to use 5w-20, this 1.6 liter engine hits 21 lbs of boost. Overseas the manual specs 5w-30. I want to use Mobil 0w-40 but Caterham's comments make sense causing my OCD to go into overload. I talk to the guys...

    Kohler Engine Update School

Oil choice is never black and white. It's still a personal choice that is different for every application. I was just shocked to see Kohler selling and advocating the use of 20w-50. I personally use Delo 5w-40 HDEO in all my outdoor power equipment with frequent oil changes. Honda generator...

    Kohler Engine Update School

I have the info at work - I'll post a pic sometime this week. Reading between the lines - I see this applying more to the Kohler big block engines that are used commercially in hot climates. The hydraulic lifters have a design change as of Sept. 2013. With older Command series engines I would...

    Kohler Engine Update School

Kohler confirmed two things in class this last week. First, changing oil often(every 100 hours) is more important than using the best synthetic oil. Second, Kohler was like a dictator when it came to only running 10w-30 in their engines with hydraulic lifters. Now they're pushing 20W-50(over 32...

Oil for Powerhouse 500--Mobil 1 or generic 15-40?

Customers drop off Powerhouse pieces of junk all day long. I just stopped being a warranty dealer. Take it back and get a Honda. I'm being a jerk about it for a reason. Run any oil you want and change it as much as you want, it's still junk. Here's a small list: compression release mechanism...
