Best and Worst SET of tires you've ever put on

Worst: Cooper Lifeliner SLE, 225/50R17 on a Volvo S80 Worn out in 35k, not very quiet, noticeably worse fuel mileage (my Blizzak WS50s were better), downright dangerous in the snow (any incline at all = not moving, washed out exceptionally easily in turns, even for all seasons) Best: Michelin...

Will the wrong ATF kill a transmission?

Sounds like a case of 'it was dying anyway' or that it was rebuilt incorrectly. Something like a 4T60 wouldn't give two shakes about what kind of fluid was in it as long as it was mainstream (Dexron, Mercon, ATF+, F) and the trans was in good working order. Transmissions that have been taken...

Windows 7 End of Life Questions

I bet you could use it until 2022 before it becomes truly obsolete. If Windows 98 and XP are anything to go by, you've got about 2-3 years after end-of-life before new core programs like web browsers stop being supported. You can probably still use it after that but, like using XP today, you'd...

    Pricing for a new Harley

Thanks for all the feedback folks, much appreciated. I'll see what I can get out of the dealers, but (as I figured) I expect it won't be much. I've owned about a half dozen bikes over the years, mostly Japanese, some English, and loved...most of them anyway. I haven't yet owned anything...

    Pricing for a new Harley

Much to the chagrin of my Triumph, BMW, and Moto Guzzi riding compatriots, I'm looking at picking up a new Iron 883. Without getting into why, I'm ordering CA emissions equipment which, here in WI anyway, means the bike will have to be built-to-order. Since I'm dealing with Harley (who is...

    2016 Chrysler T&C trans service/fluid suggestions

Severe service schedule says replace filter and fluid every 60k. First change on those usually has plenty of schmutz on the magnet, but subsequent changes usually don't show much. Replace with ATF+4, just shy of 5 quarts, and keep on keeping on. Inside the sump, the 'main line' bore in the...

    Sidegraded from 6600K to Ryzen 5 1600

I'm glad to see AMD rigs being built again (go team Red!). You probably aren't missing out on as much performance as you might be thinking, if LinusTechTips recent video here is to be believed. With upcoming BIOS flashes it sounds like memory stability on Ryzen platforms will be significantly...

OE NGK plugs from a 2006 4.0 Jeep 204,314 miles!

The 4 liter was noisy, dirty, and leaky, but it genuinely didn't give a **** about anything. Best engine ever made.

Will you guys buy a 2004 Dodge ?

The value of the Dodge is dependent more on how it was taken care of and less on 'it's a Dodge'. People claiming that the head gasket is nearly gone and the trans is ready to pack up are spouting nothing but nonsense and hearsay. The iron 2.4 does have a timing belt. If the belt snaps at very...

    Tranny Question about Ram.

I agree, check out the speed sensor first. Side note, were the bands adjusted when the trans was serviced? Virtually nobody remembers to do that anymore.

    Gear Pattern Question

Textbook perfect, as long as it looks like this the whole way around the ring. Clean her up & fill her up.

ROKU users: how do you like it?

It's fantastic. I just bought a new Express (the $20ish one) because my new Vizio 'smart' TV apparently isn't smart at all (though that's a rant for another day). My old roommate had a Roku 3 that we both used for a few years. Couldn't beat it. The icing on the cake would be more extensive...

    Citroën Cactus

I saw several in the UK shortly after they went on sale. I genuinely have no idea how one got into the US though.

    Chrysler 62TE Fluid Extraction Capacity

I have never extracted fluid from a 62TE without dropping the pan, but with a pan drop and filter change refill capacity is just shy of 5 quarts. I subscribe to pan dropping in Chryslers, if for no other reason than they have small pan magnets that fill up quickly. At the first service it's...

What to know before buying a Subaru

2.5s are what you'll find most of, unless you get old enough to get into a 2.2. A 2.5 will eventually need head gaskets (check the coolant bottle and radiator). They also like to eat catalysts, probably an effect of eating coolant from head gasket failure and their tendency to burn oil. Subie...

Subaru Oil Filter Installed in Dodge Ram Trans?

To #1 and 2, possibly yes. If the filter media came apart or crud otherwise floated downstream you could have all sorts of problems. With the spin on filter missing you weren't getting oil anywhere in the trans. I'm guessing the delayed engagement and slipping happened as the filter loosened and...

Foam using Delvac in XSR900 w/pics

Some foaming like this is common, especially in unitized engines (my T100 looks the same right after shutoff). As long as your oil level is correct and you don't have a drop in oil pressure you'll be fine. Edit: FWIW, I'm currently also running Delvac 1300 15W-40.

Gotta love the Chryco 3.3/3.8. Doesn't care what's in there as long as it's slippery.

Why can't dot5 brake fluid be used with ABS?

When agitated rapidly (such as the on/off cycling of ABS valves) silicone-based brake fluid foams excessively. Foaming causes the same behavior as if there were air in the lines...so once ABS engages, you're suddenly not stopping. Edit: additional information Silicone fluids dissolve air into...
