    Yamaha Bolt XV950

The manual for my 2017 Yamaha SCR950 (same motor as Bolt) says do NOT use an engine oil with the diesel specification of "CD" without any explanation. The only reason I can imagine is concern about sensitivity of the O2 sensor / catalyst to oil additives necessary for the CD rating?

    Pipe Joint Compound..

The ONLY application I'd recommend is as a sealant on tapered pipe threads such as some drain plugs on manual transmissions and differentials. Never on caliper slider pins that need a high-temperature moly-based grease.

    Drain plugs and gaskets.

Then how about transmission and differential drain / fill plugs that often have a tapered pipe thread without gasket? These need their own special sealant depending on metals (brass, aluminum, steel) operating temperature and retained fluid type. For steel into steel (differentials) I use blue...

Oil recommendations in a limited list of products?

Based on your information I would choose Motul 100% synthetic ester base 7100. 20W50 seems rather high viscosity as most small-displacement air-cooled singles are fine with a 10W40, but if the manual specifies 20W50, I'd stick with it. 7100 meets all requirements for street use with good old...

    Dexron III + Friction Modifier = ATF +4 ?

Thank you all for the advice and comments that reinforce my gut feeling no shade-tree shop can blend complex lubricant requirements with an additive. I should have insisted on ATF +4. That said, I am still leery of the 47RE trans behind a Cummins, as noted above, so even the OEM doesn't get it...

    Dexron III + Friction Modifier = ATF +4 ?

My 2001 Dodge Ram 2500 4x4 with Cummins I-6 diesel has the 47RE overdrive transmission specifying Chrysler's ATF +4 only. An independent diesel specialist shop drained, flushed and refilled with Dexron III / Mercon plus 20 oz ATP AT-203 synthetic friction modifier, claimed to provide equivalent...

Ford E-350 Rear Axle = Lifetime Fill?

Thanks for the input - my instinct is to replace the original axle fluid by 60K, tops. I got some Red Line 75W140 GL-5 gear oil in anticipation of the refill. Can't fit a suction tube all the way to the bottom of the differential housing through the fill plug so I'll have to pull the cover...

Ford E-350 Rear Axle = Lifetime Fill?

I just got a Class B motorhome on a 2001 Ford E-350 dual rear wheel cutaway chassis with 10,700 lb GVWR and just over 30K miles. Naturally I checked all fluids but the rear axle is supposed to be a lifetime fill according to the manual with 75W140 synthetic hypoid gear oil. This Motorcraft...

Best stabalizer and fuel system cleaner

I've spent some time researching this topic and still have no clear answer. There are three main problem areas: 1. Ethanol hygroscopic action sucking excess water into fuel, inducing phase separation and corrosion 2. Increased carbon deposits from ethanol combustion characteristics building...

    Arco Graphite Oil

I went through gallons of Arco Graphite in my 1980's Oldsmobile diesel. Dreadful oil for a dreadful engine. Thing is, any oil rapidly turned pitch black in that converted 350 gas V8 from all the soot blow by, so you wouldn't know it was graphited to begin with. Surprisingly, the engine lasted...

    2000 5.4L Oil

I have a 2001 6.8 L Ford Triton modular V-10 in an E-350 running just fine on Valvoline Syn Power 5W-20 and the Motorcraft FL-820S with zero oil consumption. My concern is not lubrication but the propensity of these early Ford 2V modular engines blowing out spark plugs, as already mentioned by...
