Auto-Rx in a Honda automatic transmission

The vehicle in question is a 1995 Honda Civic EX. 1.6 L SOHC VTEC, automatic transmission, 189,000 miles. This is my brand-new used vehicle. A couple of days ago I received a shipment from Auto-Rx with 2 bottles of the cleaner. One bottle is already in the crankcase. I am not sure whether I...

    Auto-Rx rinse phase oil

I know this subject has been discussed extensively, but I cannot find any of the old threads. In any case, the vehicle in question is a '95 F-150, 5.0L, 150,000 miles. The owner's manual calls for 10W-30 oil, but I have been running 5W-20 in the engine for over a year now without any problems...

87 Chevy P/U crank, no start

This is a desperate plea for help 87 3/4 ton Chevrolet pick-up 350 V8 TBI ~140,000 miles Unknown maintenance history This is not my vehicle, so I'm not familiar with it's history. This is how the symptoms were described to me: A while ago the truck started acting like it couldn't get out of...

    Zerex G-05

Managed to spill some G-05 (50/50 solution with distilled water) on my hand Saturday. The affected area started to itch and turn red literally right before my eyes. Two white, mosquito-bite-looking bumps started developing inside the area. Soap and large amount of running water seemed to get...

    Long-term FP observation

'95 F-150, 5.0L V-8, 139,XXX miles, 4R70W transmission, regular maintenance (but nothing dramatic or religious). Last summer I noticed that during long (~30 miles one way) trips on the highway the transmission would kick out of OD even on the slightest incline. At that time tranny was due for...

    5W-20 in a 5.0L Ford

'95 F-150, 5.0L, 138,XXX miles. No significant leaks, doesn't burn a drop of oil, level stays the same throughout the OCI. Used mainly for city driving (short trips no longer than 6-8 miles one way) with an occasional run on the highway. The Motorcraft website recommends using 5W-20 in this...

    Sell it or junk it?

The water pump on my 95 Galant finally went out. Looks like the seal is bad - coolant gets dumped all over the accessory drive belts, which in turn slip, which eliminates the power steering and probably the alternator. This is a fairly decent car (for a Galant, that is). It has almost 150,000...

    Mixing coolant

I've often seen the following advice on this board in regards to flushing the cooling system: drain and refill the radiator with distilled water until it runs clear, and then fill up the radiator with straight antifreeze to achieve a 50/50 mix; fill up the overflow tank with a 50/50 mix (did I...

    PB Garage Door Lubricant

Saw this number at a Big Lots store the other day. Looks like it's made by the manufacturer of PB Blaster (at least graphics on the can are similar). As far as I remember, it's some kind of silicone, Teflon, who-knows-what-else type of deal. According to the text on the can, supposed to do all...

    Lubricant for a hand ratchet

I was working on a garbage disposer today, and accidentally dropped a 1/4 in. ratchet in a tub full of water. I disassembled it, dried everything off, and sprayed the internals with Mobil 1 spray lube (in order to displace any remaining moisture, among other things). Will Mobil 1 lube be enough...

    15W-40 in a Japaneese 4-banger

It's about time for an oil change for the '95 Galant (148,xxx miles). For about 6 months now I've ran TropArtic 10W-40 in it in hopes of reducing oil consumption (1 qt/1,000 miles). Although the engine seemed to have taken quite a liking to this oil, the consumption did not improve. Auto-Rx got...

    Lawnmower engine oil

Would it be a good idea to use a 4-stroke motorcycle engine oil (such as Mobil 1 MX4T) in a lawnmower engine? Wouldn't it be "better", since, unlike automotive engine oil, it is formulated specifically for air-cooled engines? Or does it even matter? Thanks.

    FP 60 vs. Stabil

It states on the Lubecontrol website that "FP60 also acts as a fuel stabilizer..." Does that mean that FP can be substituted for Stabil , or am I reading too much into the statement?

    Homefinder service

Has anybody had any experience with these "homefinder services" (the number, where you pay a fee, and they find houses, apts, etc. for rent). Are they really worth the money, or is it better to browse through classifieds and drive around the neighbourhood looking for "For Rent" signs? Thanks.

    Crank, no start

'88 Suburban, 305 V8, 123,000 miles. Fuel pump went out last summer and was replaced. Fuel filter replaced at the same time. Shortly thereafter ignition coil went out. Replaced with an aftermarket unit. New cap, rotor, plugs and wires. The problem is that the truck has been sitting in the...

    Noisy water pump

Right around summertime I noticed that there was noise coming from the engine area on my 95 Galant (2.4L, 144,000 miles). Sounded like rapid grinding noise. Stethoscope inspection narrowed it down to the water pump. I think the reason for the noise was a power steering belt that was on a bit too...

    Oil and OCI recommendation

2 vehicles: 95 Galant with 144,000 miles, 2.4L I4 and 95 F-150 with 137,000 miles, 5.0L V-8. Galant sees mostly highway use. Currently using 10W-40 TropArtic on a rinse phase of Auto-Rx. Prior to that was using MaxLife 10W-30, and for one 3,000-mile OCI - Mobil Drive Clean Plus 10W-30. On both...

    Cracked spark plug wires.

Girlfriend's 98 Mazda 626, 2.5L V6, 120,000 miles threw out a Check Engine Light a while back. Absolutely no driveability symptoms. She took it to the dealer. Diagnosis: dirty EGR valve (code 400, or something like that, I haven't seen the paperwork for myself yet). Ran fine for over 3,000 miles...

Engine acting strange after switching to 10W-40

95 Mitsubishi Galant, 2.4 L I4, 141,000 miles. Manual calls for 5W-30, but allows 10W-30 in moderate to hot climates. Car has been with me since 107,000 miles, and has been using (no visible smoke or significant leaks) about 1 qt. of 10W-30 in 1,000 miles the whole time. Per advice of members of...

    Mercon V/Dexron III

Did a search on this, but couldn't get any definite answers. Is this a "step up" from Dexron III/Mercon, and this fluid can be used in trannys calling for Dexron/Mercon? I was under the impression that Mercon and Mercon V were completely different fluids and were not interchageable.
