Fumoto works for getting oil out - What can I use to get oil in?

A suitable funnel with the required length of hose to reach? The funnel has to be higher than the oil fill (ha-ha).

Anyone ever change oil in rental car?

There was a period when I rented locally for "740 mile weekends"...well in excess of their allowed miles. I mentioned the exact distance of my familiar trip and the fellow upped the allowance to 2,500 miles (?). To thank him, I returned the car cleaned, vacuumed -even the trunk- and full to...

    Noctilucent Clouds

Thanks for those clouds. Once, on a flight home from Scandinavia, the pilot pointed out to a plane full of sleeping people the saw-toothed mountains of northern Greenland. They resembled the minimalist background art from the old Krazy Kat panel cartoons (faithfully recreated for TV). It was...

    Yesterday at the DMV

They "just plug it in". Visible exhaust might be the only remaining visual inspection FAIL. The facilities accommodated undercarriage cameras, front end shakers, headlight focus and brake equalization tests. BIG barns they were.

    Yesterday at the DMV

NJ's bi-annual inspection is included with the registration fee. They have drive-through barns around the state. Yesterday I arrived at a single line of 11 vehicles feeding 2 open lanes. You exit your vehicle and walk to the end of the building and wait. I was done within 18 minutes of my...

Funeral escort services looking like police officers/uniforms

Yup. My driver's ed teacher said funeral processions and military convoys continue through red lights. I don't know about when the lead vehicle approaches a red light. D.C. residents just told me your traffic description/characterization is exaggerated. Of course, it's all about WHEN you...

Disaster at Camp Mistic - cheap flood alarm

Yeah, but the "government is bad...taxes are bad..." Praying for somebody costs nothing and requires no effort. A summer camp is built in a flood plain because the land is cheaper...and people act surprised when it floods. Like the roadside 'campgrounds' in the German and Austrian mountains...

    Pre cut window tint

I want the driver window mirror tinted to keep the Sun off my face. DIYing just one window is appealing. ctechbob's mention of prep straightened me out. PLUS, I dropped into a new tint shop and I liked who I met there.

Wish me luck. 2014 navigator oil change

Details are the story here. How well are you equipped? Got ramps? Considering doing something dangerous with whatever jack you have? IF you need to buy a catch pan, get an "open style", like this...

In praise of the cartridge oil filter

I thought the same thing. One element I got had felt center sealing material At least an oil analysis indicated general OK condition. The size of the particles in the oil is another question.

A couple of nice touches on my new car

Congrats and best of luck with your new vehicle. BRAVO. On a more jaded note: Parking lot creeps (or mechanics at the Quick Lube) will steal those valve caps and the more industrious of high school kids will pry out those self-centering caps before Labor Day.

Clorox bleach shelf life... I had no idea.

Great thread. I knew it aged fairly quickly. I also thought it was a gas which simply left the solution. I've never seen Clorox in a Costco type store figuring they'd want to completely avoid having a caustic spill....especially with the requisite larger size containers. Anybody ever do the...

What is this odd but neat style of subdivision house called exactly.

What's the reason for the "missing house" in the picture above (post #22)?

    Kreen is kool

So, using the 1.5oz./qt., you essentially "double dosed" it. How did the hot oil look when you drained it?

Change out to 90w (old Canter truck)

Does their lube guide specify any other grades?

How to clean coolant side of a boat heat exchanger?

As suggested in post #7: See what citric acid (common cooking ingredient) can do. There's a chance gasoline didn't touch it and all you got were some 'free bits' and staining. My sister had a heater core which had a variety of radiator leak-stop products clogging it. I know this is not your...

Tallest building in Oregon sold for pennies on the dollar.

Back in the 1960's, wasn't St. Louis the poster city for the "Beautify America" campaign figure-headed by Lady Bird Johnson? I recall seeing lots of cleared lots in downtown neighborhoods there 40 years ago. Were those just real old relics from the late 19th Century? Maybe building...

    Need Advice on Tire Size

Did this just become a Valvoline VRP thread? Seriously: If it's 'blowin' by' a lot, the cats are going to die soon as it has 184k already. Do a compression check. >>Fill 'er up and take a long distance drive. Do this several times and do hand calculated mpg numbers. Get an estimate on...

    Need Advice on Tire Size

You're in such a plum place...sprucing up a 20 year old Caddy which was taken care of in the first place. Keep doing what you're doing and leave the tires be for now. Better a suspension out-of-spec condition wear these tires unevenly than a set of your chosen favorites. You say you've...
