    White Transmission oil

Buddy has a shop, was draining the transmission on a bike and out came white fluid, he'd never seen that before, what can cause trans fluids to turn white, or is there a white fluid out there? The oil in the left side of the pan is white, mixing with the other oil from the engine in the pan...

    Oil and Water properties

XS and Gary, thanks that's what the question was inquiring about, does water provide a better source for removing heat. As to oil coolers, if oil has half the capacity to hold heat as water, and you are in a non water environment such as an air cooled motor, then having a cooler provides a...

    Oil and Water properties

Thanks this is good the addition of information on coolants is good too. I really wasn't trying to make a statement about oil and water other than we were having a discussion and the topic came up, not having a bunch of engineers on that site I came here as it's always been a good site...

    Oil and Water properties

Some folks on another board were discussing oil temps in our HD's and the following came up, just wondered if someone here knows the scoop.. The question is "does oil absorb more or less heat energy than water for a corresponding rise in temperature" Second, would the answer be different when...

Someone Straighten Me Out-What Mobil 1 NOW for my ancient V-Twin?

Interesting I went to several locations today and no red cap, I did pick up some Gold Extended for the motor only, I guess it would be great if we had an analysis of the oils content relative to V-twin to make a good decision. I don't see how the small amount of additional modifiers in the...

Fork Oil When to Change and Why

Been having some discussion on the fork oil, when should you change it on a heavy cruiser like a heritage or road king, and what is the reason, does the oil really deteriorate in 10 to 15K it's not like it is running through a motor and getting hot to 250 degrees. Thanks

    Syn3 and Tranny Damage

I wondered too if the problem(s) are coincidental, if you would like to see the pictures and the information in the post here is a link to the HTT site where the discussion is going on about Syn3 in trannies the images are on post 37 I believe. Htt syn3 Tranny Pictures

    Syn3 and Tranny Damage

Recently on HTT a tech from a dealer posted the information below about Syn3 and a few trannies he's seen. Can anyone comment on the Syn3 and it'a ability to withstand the gears needs in the transmission of the HD's? Thanks HarleyVROD, posted this on HTT. Just passing it on.....but I have...

    Syn3 and EP

Shannon thanks very informative, do you know if Syn3 has the EP for gear oils or at least some form of protection or would it be necessary In that HD says pour it in all three areas, It would seem that the oil would have to include all kinds of additives, one for motors, one for gears and a...

    Syn3 and EP

Heard some talk that Syn3 doesn't have a EP additive package, and it's possible that the transmissions of HD's running syn3 might have issues beacuse of this missing additive. What is a EP package Any truth to the "rumor" about syn3, ep and future wear issues?

    ATF and HD Primary/gearcase

I've heard people run ATF in the primary and the gearcase, however Harleys are Manual trans and gear boxes. Is there any problem with ATF in either primary or gearcase of the trans? I would think you'd want to run a MTL and I think that's what Redline offers.

    Aircraft Areoshell in HD V-Twins?

Just trying to say because an engine is air cooled that in and of itself isn't a good reason to believe that an "air cooled" product is good enough, I was agreeing with your post above.

    Aircraft Areoshell in HD V-Twins?

Excellent information to know, my concerns were that the additives for a plane may be different than for a bike. Air Cooled HD or BMW aside the operating conditions are opposite extremes and it would seem to me that the oil package would be different.

2002 Harley, is best oil HD brand syn?

Bighitr, I too ran syn3 in all three places, I found no better performance or shifting over my previous use of Castrol Synthetic V-twin $6.75 qt in the motor, in fact it felt hotter and was noisier with the Syn3. The gearbox didn't shift better than the Amsoil Racing synthetic gear oil I've...

    Aircraft Areoshell in HD V-Twins?

I understand what you're saying, however several of them have said they've done 20 to 50 thousand miles without problems, one said he'd done a big bore upgrade and had been running the oil and had no visable problems in the motor (it's the not so visable ones you have to be concerned with) Just...

    Aircraft Areoshell in HD V-Twins?

A couple of guys were talking about using Aeroshell oil in their AirCooled Harley Davidson V-twins, breaking in the motor with mineral oil and switching over to the Aeroshell. Is this something that you could or should do? What advantage would it have What disadvantge would it create Just...

    Synthetic Molocules Question

Thanks for the replies yeah might take the average RUB a few years to get to 50K but he'll spend several hundred on fresh synthetic to protect the investment LOL It is amazing the closed minds to the synthetic, I imagine it goes back to the first years where people had issues with bikes and put...
