    Supplied Air Respirator for Sandblasting

So after much reading it appears the NIOSH P100 half mask is not qualified for use for silica sand blasting. I know someones going to say 'just use another media' - not really possible since it's outdoors, high pressure, and it flies everywhere. So I've been researching supplied air systems. I...

No Pressure When Removing Gas Cap - Bad?

Can this situation lead to the degradation of certain parts - like the fuel pressure regulator or fuel pump? Today I had to have my car towed on the main road because I was driving down a hill (after I replaced the fuel filter with a new one), and it died suddenly. Fuel Pump fuse blown when I...

Fuel Pump Fuse Keeps Blowing on Maxima

Curious what you guys think to the lifespan of those fuel filters. The car was sitting over the winter, and it did have Stabil in the fuel, and I just ran this car about 500 KM OK, but I notice that it has been getting a tad weak during starting, like the fuel could not be getting through...

Can Fogging Oil Cause Excess Carbon Deposits

I bought a can of the Canadian Tire engine fogging oil, spray can. Directions say to spray it in the spark plug holes, then rotate engine by hand. Months later when I go to start up the engine, do you guys think that this fogging oil in there, will burn and form black carbon deposits on my clean...

Strange Exhaust System Putty / Gasket Maker

When I got back my Honda from the garage, I notice they used a strange putty or gasket maker in between the CAT & Resonator pipe. I don't know if they used this IN PLACE of the actual donut gasket, but does anyone know what this stuff is? It dried REALLY hard when I touched it. It was grey...

    Shell Rotella T Synthetic 5W-40 replacing 5W-30

I've found this synthetic oil that should still have more ZDDP in it than regular SM oils. The Nissan Maxima 1994 Service Manual says that 5W-30 SG is preferred. Can this 5W-40 be used as a replacement so I don't have to buy an SM oil with those little additive bottles? Can the 5W-40 do damage...

    Why Does Time Affect OCI

Can someone explain to me why they say for eg. 12,000 KM or 6 MONTHS Whatever comes first. How is it that the time affects the OCI, when oil can be sitting in containers for 5 yrs and not degrade much. Why is it that as soon as it goes in the engine we are on the 6 Months count down?

    Substitute for Marvel Mystery Oil

Does anyone know of a substitute or name a few, as MMO is discontinued now in Canada. I'll be using it (along with Sta-bil) for fogging. Adding it to the gas tank of my Nissan Maxima for storage.

Is SM Backwards Compatible with SG

Notice on the SuperTech 5W-30 bottle, it doesn't list SG in the specifications. Only SM, SL, SJ. The 93 Maxima service manual says to use SAE 5W30 SG Rated. Here's something I found on the ratings: PETROL SG - Introduced 1989 has much more active dispersant to combat black sludge. SH -...

Is My 'New' Fuel Pump Dead Already?

Here's the scenario guys. Fuel pump was installed (New Bosch) FEB 2008. I've put 16,590 KM on the pump only since. Started the car up to warm it up. Walked back outside and heard it stalling, and it turned off. Started the car up again and it started stalling out like when we remove the fuse...

Where to Set Your Jackstands if Pinch Welds Only

In the serviice manual they show those side floor/pinch weld parts that you can see the metal sticking out. Civic was on a 2-pole lift earlier and worked fine, as the lift had a flat foot on all 4, and they have 4 plates sticking out the pinch weld. My jackstands are the 6 ton type but have...

Can the B4RA (99 Civic EX) Auto Trans Use Dexron3

I called Mr. Lube and it appears that they fill all Honda Civics of this age with regular Dexron III ATF. Service manual says to use ONLY Honda ATF (Z-1). Is this nonsense in the manual? How could such a big chain like Mr. Lube risk it if it was dangerous.

Deionized vs Distilled Water for Radiator

Notice the bottle of concentrated coolant says to mix with deionized water. Is there any reason they don't list distilled water? Some benefit over it? I read this from the internet - do you guys think this is nonsense: (Seems a little over dramatic to me. Why would the manufacturers all put mix...

Is There a Specific Tool to Test Belt Tension

Re: Timing Belt Tension & Drive Belts Not working on a stand, I had a hard time measuring the deflection of the belts with 22 lbs force. Is there a tool that makes this easier when stuff is blocking in the way. Top access to the belt is possible, but I can't see a side view.

    Detonation

Can someone tell me, if I'm looking at the timing arrow on the belt cover and the 6 notches in the crank pulley are to the RIGHT of the mark when I use the timing light, was I ADVANCED or RETARTED. I can tell you that it was WAY OFF when I broke in the cam and I think the engine may have been...

Can a Home DIY Do Alignment Themselves?

I just put the new steering rack in and I notice on the front the only adjustment is the tie rod ends for alignment right? The rear looks like Parallel Links only. Is there some way to do the alignment yourself? It seems that the tie rod ends can only rotate a few turns and the hub starts to go...

    Outer Tie Rod Jam Nut

Does anyone know how a mechanic can use a torque wrench on this specific jam nut which is located at the end of the outer tie rod on the steering rack. I'm not talking about the castle nut with the cotter pin on the end part, it's the nut around the shaft of the steering rack that positions the...

Procedure to Store a Transmission Outside

Storing a Maxima Automatic transmission outside with a tarp on sitting on 2 x 4's over the winter. Is there some fogging procedure I need to do before it goes below zero? Right now the oil was drained out when I removed it, and whatever is left in the torque converter is still there. Someone...
