Floor Jack squealing - maintenance or repair suggestions

I have a newer 3T Arcan jack (from Costco - not sure of the model), which is only a couple of years old. Mine has had a similar issue since new. The pitch of the squealing changes a bit, based on how much load is on the jack. Jacking up our smaller car (Elantra Touring) only created a slight...

HAD IT...going with full size spare

Surfstar, you are only living life close to the edge. I'm not too worried about the weight, so I have a 2 ton hydrolic [sp] jack and breaker bar in my truck (extended cab -- stuff behind seat), but don't carry a spare because the mounting thingy under the box is busted and I don't want to put a...

    0w-30 in a 3.9L dakota

I am using 0W30 XD-3 in my '94 Dakota 3.9l. It's been in there for about 3 weeks now. I haven't noticed any problems yet. I was worried about having low oil pressure, but the pressure doesn't seem to be very much less than the 0W40 I was using previously. It doesn't drop below the normal range...

Switching from Mobil 1, what should I use?

If you buy a case of the XD-3 and don't like it, I may buy the rest of it from you if you live close to St. John's. I've purchased a case of XD-3 0W30, but haven't had a chance to change out either of my vehicles with it yet. I've only used it for top ups so far. I'd say that I'll probably be...

Am I Lazy ???? I absolutely refuse to Mow !!!

Isn't it somewhere in a 'mower etiquette (sp?)' book that it is perfectly acceptable to not mow in temps above 80°F/25°C? FWIW, the GF is always nagging me about mowing the lawn. I always tell her to at least give it a chance to grow before I cut it again.

    Speed Limit

Because everyone knows that if it is not stated that it is "strictly enforced", then it is automatically "casually enforced"!

Anyone hate having a cell phone

I've only purchased a cell phone a few months ago. Up till then, I've had absolutely no use for them, especially to pay $30 or $40 a month to only use it a few times a week. Even then, it wasn't really necessary. But now, I drive a taxi on the weekends and the phone has been a good investment...

    eminent domain abuse

How ironic would it be if the families in this area could somehow get the money to build a shopping mall, hotel, or whatever in the area where some of the judges live, and then get the city to throw their families out of their homes to make room for the development?

Need info on Geo Trackers please

A co-worker has a Tracker (I believe it is a '97). Last fall, he had to replace one of the front auto-locking hubs (for the 4WD). The part cost around $800 CDN (new -- there were no used ones to be found). Then, this spring, the one on the other side went. Other than that, I don't think he had...

USA uses nuke to cause tsunami

That's absolutely true. And, after a period of time telling them to pi** off, they eventually get the hint and stop asking.

    Airplane humor

Just read this one this morning. Thought it would be good for a laugh. Two men dressed in pilot’s uniforms walk up the aisle of the airplane. Both are wearing dark glasses, one is using a guide dog, and the other is tapping his way along the aisle with a cane. Nervous laughter spreads...

    My idea of severe service.

You probably should be doing a UOA just after you get out of the river to see if you can make it all the way to work!

just got police scanner; many bad drivers

Oh yeah, something else... You don't really need a scanner to realize bad drivers. Just park somewhere in sight of a 4-way stop for an hour or more and you can have yourself a good laugh for a while!

just got police scanner; many bad drivers

I've done something similar to this a few years back. Myself and another vehicle were heading along a 4 lane highway with just a 10 or 12 foot span of yellow lines between opposing lanes. We were both exceeding the speed limit by about 30Km/h (doing 100 in a 70). Anyway, I was just following...

    Let's see some stats

I guess I'm only a rookie at this! Got licence in 1993. Bought a '85 Reliant for $150 and got dad to get it running. Drove for a year or so and sold for $300. No tickets or accidents with this one. Bought '89 Dakota Sport (Red & Black 3.9l) in '94. Had for 8 years pretty much trouble-free...

    SUVs - height

Do you have access to an air compressor at your home? How much height can you cut off by letting the air out of the tires? We did this on a lifted Ram 1500 (or 2500 -- I cannot remember which) when we needed to do some bodywork and paint it. That gave us a good 6 to 8 inches.

    Power outage beeper???

Could you pick up one of those emergency lights that are used in public buildings? Just plug it in, aim the lights somewhere you can see them easily (or try to run an extension cord to somewhere you could see a light) and then when the outlet loses power, the emergency light will come on and let...

Those 1 hours repairs that go wrong.

Funny you should start this thread! I am just now recovering from trying to get three universal joints and a carrier bearing changed on my Dakota yesterday. I started around 5:30 or so and figured it would take a few hours for sure. Unfortunately, the joints were the original ones from '94 and...
