Yes, they are trying to sell more filters. The B&S filter is nothing more than an automotive filter in disguise and is most likely made by Champion Labs. $14 for an oil filter is ridiculous!

Wouldn't hurt to use a -12, especially if there are any 45 or 90 degree fittings in the line.

I changed the oil today on Wheel Horse tractor with a 20hp Onan twin. The filter was a Pure One that was in service for 2 years and 38 hours. About 1/3 of the center tube was collapsed. This has made me a little leary of Purolators.
