Hilarious video on ACEA A3 vs A5 in a Land Rover diesel!

I'd love to hear the thoughts on this video! I think it's great to see someone from outside the oil nut community do a deep dive on this kind of topic. I'm having trouble believing that he has done any real damage to this engine by his oil choice. I'm thinking that the noise probably has more...

    Driver's door fault

Why does my 2011 Ford Focus think it's driver's door is ajar, when temps rise above Freezing? At -5˚C and colder, no problem. At around 0˚C the fault light comes on and the antitheft alarm goes off without provocation.

What's better in the extreme cold than Amsoil Severe Gear 75W-90?

This past fall I did a drain and fill of Amsoil Severe Gear 75W-90 in my 5 speed Mazda 6. Last week when the temps got down to -40˚ the gear shift and transmission became like the Sword and the Stone... immovable. The shifter didn't begin to move again (side to side in neutral) until temps...

What one oil would you pick if only one could be had?

We ask this question from time to time about everything... Like: If you could only have one car, what would it be? If you could only have one pair of shoes, what would they be? If you could only have one meal, what would it be? Etc... Well, if you could only have one engine oil, what would it be?

Jaguar XJ-8 6 speed (ZF) automatic transmission fluid recommendations

Hi, I'm buying a mint 2005 XJ-8 (X350) Vanden Plas. It only has 80,000 km (49,720 miles) on it, but after 18 years I figure a transmission fluid change is in order. I was going to use Amsoil: AMSOIL Signature Series Fuel-Efficient 100% Synthetic Automatic Transmission Fluid PRODUCT CODE...

    Are new oils always better?

Life is full of compromises and I imagine engine oils could be full of even more compromises than we know. I wouldn't be surprised if new oils lack certain anti-wear additives that old formulas had, in order to satisfy new environmental regulations. Are new oil specs "deficient" in some way...

What's the best clutch kit in 2023?

Hi, I have a 2007 Mazda 6 GS hatchback, with a normally aspirated 2.3L engine. Is there a consensus as to which modern clutch kits are best in this type of application? I'm finding a lot of information for this specific car is around 10 years old and wondering if there is anything new I should...

    Pennzoil Ultra Platinum and leaks

I have been experimenting with 12 month OCIs in my 2007, Mazda 6, 2.3L. The last interval ended early (for a variety of reasons, none of which are a concern) after 10 months and 12,180 kms. During this interval, the engine lost (does not burn, only leaks) approximately 2L of Mobil 1 EP 0W-20...

What would you do, engine code for Thermostat?

2007 Mazda 6 2.3L 4 cylinder Engine light came on after driving 25 minutes on the highway. Engine is running fine. As much as I can tell, fuel economy is normal. Code indicates a problem with the thermostat. There is heat in the interior and the engine temperature remains normal. Have now...

    Amazing Ruger Gunsite Scout accuracy!

This thread may not appeal to many, but I feel the need to share... For those who are unfamiliar, the Ruger Gunsite Scout is a short (16.5-18.7"), handy, box fed, rifle that follows the pattern of Jeff Cooper's scout rifle concept. Generally they are chambered in .308 Winchester/7.62x51. It's...

Synthetic motor oil in a gun

I've done a ton of searching, and much to my surprise, there is very little on BITOG about using synthetic motor oil as gun lube. Can anyone point me to a definitive thread on the topic?

    What's the new wonder elixir?

I haven't been around for a while. The last year I followed Bitog with any regularity was before 2010. Back then German Castrol, 0w30 was pretty much the bench mark. So what's the big deal in motor oil now in 2019?

    Lubrication Engineers Inc.?

My searches here are coming up blank. What can anyone tell me about Lubrication Engineers Inc.? http://www.lelubricants.com/index.html My father wants to be distributor, but the info he's giving me sounds kind of snake oil like. I'm wondering if L.E. is over selling their products, or if it's...

    Starter won't stop

The starter on my 1989 Ford E-250 van (4.9L straight 6) continues to spin once the engine has caught and fired. The current incident is the third time in about 3 years. In the other incidents the cranking would eventually stop after cycling the key on an off a bunch of times, or by putting the...
