Rental car review - 2026 Chevy Trax LT

The Smart car got bad mileage too. Just the aero shape of the things. Small does not always equal economical. You hit all my points I was going to make. It's a cheap car marketed to people who think that new, zero miles is their key to problem free driving. BITOG should be happy it's not a...

Walmart.com: Starfire Solarus tires, many sizes

My 195 65r15s showed up via Fedex. 3525 date code, for the curious. I usually get tires 2-3 months old from WM so this is a slight outlier.

EV and Hybrid - CAR - Front ends. Ugly.

Cute utes all suffer from the same problem, how to make a good looking hatch. They keep adding "swooshes" and some have four or five of them. I don't think they add much aerodynamically, they're just trying to break up a fat rear end. I remember the 1986 Ford Taurus when it came out. Between...

Funny car story from my youth.

My dad grew up near Youngstown OH and we were on I-80 somewhere boring in PA going out to see his folks. He points at the guardrail, which is a slightly different shade of rust than the other guardrails. "That's where I wiped out in my Mustang" he gloats. OK, Boomer.

Why do people strongly opine about topics they know nothing about?

To branch out on this, define stupidity. It's more than a lack of mental horsepower. Some people are slow to learn but eventually learn something and are pretty good at it. If it's something that bores others, they may actually become an expert. It's more than a lack of curiosity. To me...

Federal Pacific Panel Prevents House Closing

Does your friend have equity where they're living now? Maybe they can use a HELOC on their old house or bridge loan for the new place instead of a traditional mortgage. Maybe talk to a loan broker; there are some banks that do "forced insurance" if you can't find your own. This typically...

Why cant people see things objectively

The human mind is like the valve body of a 4L60E. You think you can follow the maze with your eyes but it throws you into first when you mash the pedal at 45 and leaves you wondering why. But seriously, if you know your own blind spots and are honest with yourself about them, AND are good at...

    Counterfeit NGK spark plugs

V powers are their cheapo $3 plugs, right? Hard to imagine a profit motive for counterfeiting those-- I assumed the pricier iridium/ rutheniums would get the fakeout treatment. But hey you never know. They're probably counterfeiting $0.10 Bic Pens.

Nursing school owner pleads guilty to selling nearly 3,000 fraudulent nursing diplomas

Oh not this tired trope again. Someone with a singular name (as given on their passports, naturalization documents, birth certificates etc) trying to navigate a state DMV system has to decide if they want it as a first or last name when anglicized. The other field has to be filled in on the...

What are you working on today?

BIL showed up with his new whip, a 2012 Focus bought from a dealer in New Hampshire, where they just stopped doing state inspections. Thing must have hit a telegraph pole and gotten rebuilt, as the radiator and condenser were both shoved inwards right on center. Bodywork was done, very poorly...

Nursing school owner pleads guilty to selling nearly 3,000 fraudulent nursing diplomas

Well are the graduated, licensed nurses victims or accomplices? The article isn't clear. If I paid for nursing school, went to all the classes they told me to, did well, passed the state test, and started a successful career I don't deserve having the rug pulled out from under me. And the...

Need recommendation - 30 weight non-detergent motor oil

My wife plays saxophone and her brother plays trumpet; both use non-detergent oil for valve maintenance. They had 99% of a quart remaining then her dope brother dumped the rest in his 78 Cutlass. 😁 The Walmart non-detergent is deliberately on a different shelf away from the motor oil so it...

Recommend battery tester for group 48 batteries

I have both the "fancy" and the carbon pile testers, and I prefer the carbon. They're all from the same factory, so here's a sketchy one from Aliexpress. Obviously disconnect your interconnects so you get results for each individual battery, no matter what tester you use.

    Battery Longevity

Charge it and clean the top off of it. The gunk of dust and condensed battery fumes can create a slow short circuit between the terminals. Being an Acura, I'm sure it has remotes and other gizmos that drain the battery. I'd give it more of a chance than you gave it by ignoring it for a...

Differential within auto transmission - 1989 Toyota Camry

Kids 99 Camry 4 cylinder has the separate diff. Make sure you can get your fill plug out before draining. Steel in aluminum likes to get sticky. New crush washers are a good idea too. There's probably a possibility of cross contamination if an internal seal goes out so they minimize drama by...
