Oil For 2014 Subaru Non-Turbo 2.5 Boxer Engine

I'll chime in here- Review of the popular Subaru forums indicates that oil consumption with the new FB series engines using 0w-20 oils varies widely- from excessive to nil. Even accepting that some proportion of the bad or good claims are exaggerations, I'm lead to the conclusion that there...

    Lube the lugs?

I use antiseize on the stud threads and lugnut seats. I also torque the lugs to 80% of stated requirement. The reduced torque value accomodates the reduced rotational thread friction, due to the lubricant, that normally "wastes" some of the torque that would otherwise (non-permanently) stretch...

Identify genuine AC Delco fuel pump

Update- Mike at Rockauto confirmed it as AC-Delco. The number 19177292-02, in small print on the outlet, confirms it as a GM/AC-Delco part number for the pump casing, per AC-Delco tech support.

Identify genuine AC Delco fuel pump

Thanks for all of the replies. I especially agree with the point that often original equiptment, even from salvage, is better that aftermarket or even oem replacement. A common example is the axle shafts for GM W-body cars (Grand Prix, Regal, Impala, etc.). The members on Club GP and Regal GS...

Identify genuine AC Delco fuel pump

Just recieved what is supposed to be a AC-Delco fuel pump for my '02 Buick Regal GS. It came packed in a shipping box- no AC-Delco shelf box. It also came with a replacement splice-in 4-pin pump harness plug. The instructions enclosed do not identify their origin; part numbers on the plug...

Engine Break In: 2010 Civic Si - Which Oils

Here's how I broke mine in... Drive it the same way that you intend to use it. Don't be afraid of short bursts of WOT. Do pay attention in first gear - you'll hit the blinking shift light really quickly! Let it rev.. 4000 RPM is only halfway... use plenty of moderate engine braking the first...

    Who makes the Subaru OEM

The US market 4 cylinder filters are Honeywell, based on information from a variety of serious Soobie forums. I have an H6- (different filter p/n)- the dealer filters available (in my region at least)for my application are the black Tokyo Roki. All the online vendors I've checked show the same...

    303 on leather

You should use automotive-specific leather cleaners and and same-brand treatment for cleaning and re-hydration. I would suggest visiting some of the popular car detailing websites- several have excellent articles explaining auto leather "dos and don'ts". 303 is fine for a UV-block topper- I've...

    Castrol Dexon VI

I installed a similar kit in my Regal GS 5 or 6 years ago- you'll be pleased by how little junk there is- compared to stock- in the pan next service. You may also notice that the fluid stays more normal looking/smelling over time, too.

    New H6 Subaru

Thanks for the replies! Brought it home mid-day, uneventful 52 mile trip. The family absolutely loves it... including the color (seacrest green). Guess Dad did good.... For posterity- the parts manager knew all about the filter concerns. As it turns out, the H6 filter, for now, isn't a...

    New H6 Subaru

Taking delivery of a new 3.0R (H6 engine) Legacy in a few hours. I've done a bit of research on what oils and filters to use... (understatement!). I'm looking for additional input on when to do the first oil/filter change, and what oil to use. As you may know, filters are problematic- maybe I'll...

    07 SI - PP 5w30 - 7,065

Fred- fellow Connecticut Si owner here. Your UOA using PP results are similar to mine (posted here some time ago...), even though the weather (seasonal effects) and useage may differ. My two cents on the viscosity drop- being that the K20Z3 in normal use is a higher rpm (even driving reasonably)...

'08 Honda Civic a great car but...

My bad- Extracting my foot from my mouth- Quick check of brake specifications on 8th civic.com indicates that the pads aren't the same.

'08 Honda Civic a great car but...

You may want to look into Civic Si pads; they have gone 23k on my car so far- and that's with a lot of stop-and-go driving. Not a really dusty pad, either. You'll need to confirm that the pad size/type is the same between the various models- I think they are.

    Thinking about a new car....

Thanks again to all for the replies. I've run into what is a showstopper for the Subies- the engine failure issue that occured earlier this year (stop sales order/all turbo 2.5's, rod knock). Don't know if the issue is fully resolved... but it does explain why there are many '08 WRX STis on...

    Thinking about a new car....

I should also add that putting dedicated winter tires on the Civic also has a price- such as noticeably degraded handling and braking in good conditions- which, to be realistic, occur at a much greater frequency and duration than the bad. Tire/wheel swapping at the onset of ice/snow is...
