    Straightest tracking vehicle?

With any of our six Hondas, you could remove your hands from the steering wheel and put your palms against the headliner for quite a while. Our old MBs, with recirculating ball steering boxes, were rather vague on center. Our 190 was better, but hardly perfect. For tracking, a FWD is probably...

    2008 Accord Pricing

Maybe next time, you should try to manage your hostility a little better. It's easy to be big and brave in the virtual world, VeeDubb, but I'll bet your real world experience isn't quite like that.

The Worst Car you ever changed oil on?

racer12306, Was this Vanagon a wasserboxer, maybe a Syncro? We had an '81 Vanagon (air cooled type IV), and changes were ridiculously easy. Also, for all you Honda/Accura complainers, it isn't that bad. Our '76 CVVC, non-crossflow head, was silly-easy. The later cars are harder, but not that...

VeeDubb, I'm sorry you couldn't recognize sarcasm withour "smilies". Get that chip off your shoulder, since that's not why anyone is here.

    5-20 or 5-30 vulcan

We have this engine in our Aerostar. It is happy with anything. In 127K, it had a lot of miles on M1 0W-30 in its youth, it had one run of GC (I ran out of the M1, I had no idea what GC was, but was a 0W-30 at on sale at AZ), it has done many miles on M1 5W-30, Syntec 5W-30, and several runs on...

    2008 Accord Pricing

I think it is kind of VeeDubb and buster to tell me what a discussion I started is really about. Helps to relieve my natural confusion. Thing is, we do a lot of miles in a year, and we have owned a number of cars over the past 30 years, and there is nothing cheaper to own than a Honda. So, I...

    Oil Back Up

I've been sayin' it. This is why a stash is nice to have. A hundred or so quarts of something you actually want to use is a good starter stash.

    Jeez, Honda parts are expensive!

Yup! Consider, though, the cost of stocking and maintaining a useable inventory of all these minor parts. The guys above are right, you probably could have gotten the piece from any decent hardware store. However, at least the screw you got from the dealer will be a perfect, no frustration fit...

    2008 Accord Pricing

Well, I'm not actually a spokesman. We have, however, had six of the beasts, and they have been by far the most satisfactory cars we have ever owned. We have had, aside from the Hondas, three GM cars, one Ford, one Toyota, four Benzes and a BMW. If I had to choose one car as a daily driver, also...

    2008 Accord Pricing

Since we avoid automatics, I guess we don't quite understand all the fuss. Hondas are at their best with a stick, in any event. For those who can't drive one, oh well.

    Battery Cables on 1997 F-150?

Any soldered-on terminal cable will work just fine. The clamp-ons (to the conductor wire) are to be avoided, since they allow corrosion of the conducting wire itself. Incidentally, as I'm sure you realize, the terminal ends you used had no effect in the failure of the battery. A more interesting...

    Battery Cables on 1997 F-150?

The clamp on type replacements you used are garbage. You need soldered repacements. You may be able to find a generic that will work at any parts store. I have used the type of replacement clamps you are talking about in the distant past, and would not mess with them again.

    Castrol GTX vs Mobil 1

My advice would be to use PP on 5K changes and not worry about it. One real advantage of even grp III syns is less deposit formation. For the small incremental cost, give your engine something known to be good. A little overkill never hurt anything, especially if it's fairly cheap.

    2008 Accord Pricing

I agree with you completely on the dealer experience. I have to disagree with you WRT the car. The Accord, like any other Honda, is a very special car. There is no other car that I know of that will give you 150K+ with no more than very inexpensive maintenance. In the the last couple of...

    Castrol Syntec Q's?

In the US, we can buy GC at AZ when Syntec is on sale for around $4.50/qt. Since our respective currencies are now at parity, are you saying that I can buy the ESSO branded oil for liter?

    Dude, where's my gasket?

On a Honda, there is also the need to ensure that the old gasket comes off with the old filter. I have had the old gasket stick to the base a couple of times with our various Hondas, and I never use anything more than my hand to tighten an oil filter.

    Anyone using Q-Horsepower

It appears that this stuff is very close to its brand sister, PP. I would not hesitate to use it. I doubt that SOPUS, or any other producer/blender/packager of name brand oil is selling anything that will grenade your engine, as long as you observe the viscocity requirements of the engine...

Applying Torque to the Transmission Pan Screws

If the gasket stays in place well enough to allow you to get all bolts started, you should have no further problems. I found the cork gasket rather retro, but in practice, it seems to work well. Also, the original one came off in one piece, which I thought was a little surprising.

    Fuel economy season

This past week, the '97 Accord on PZ yellow 10W-40 did 32.6 mpg. The '99 Accord on GC did 32.7 mpg. Both were run about 380 miles before filling. Now, is it just me, or does everyone else see noticeably better fuel economy in the mild temperatures of fall and spring? Winter fuel economy is...

Oil for leaking rear main seal

I have had Mercedes that liked to leak at the rear main seal. I found that with some revs and the higher oil pressure, the leak was nil. I am saying that, because the diesel might have dripped noticeably at idle in the driveway, but actual consumption, as well as the under car oil streak...
