Who's going strictly by their Oil Life Monitor?

Haha! Well, if you have 5 miles of local out of 130 miles total daily, you can see what the average is. Originally Posted By: Gary Allan Heck, didn't you leave out that you put it in 2nd gear for the first 10 miles? In Drew's case, altitude may have something to do with it.

Who's going strictly by their Oil Life Monitor?

Wow, unbelievable. I do a lot of highway, average at 55 mph. I got 10k on my last oci @7%. Drew, look back in this thread if you like. Originally Posted By: ryster Originally Posted By: Drew99GT Do you do a lot of highway driving? I find it odd that the one in our Impala seems to go faster...

    Chinese front-end parts

This is funny, lol. I am not saying what you said can't be true. But let's follow your logic. 1, Commy can take over GM China. 2, If GM knows 1, GM would not set up a plant out there. 3, GM is not that stupid. GM for sure knows 1. But GM still set up plants in China, which can only mean that 1...

Who's going strictly by their Oil Life Monitor?

My 08 Impala 3.5L went 10k miles to ~ 7% last OC. I only have the car for 17k miles now so that's all I can tell you. I bought when it's 11 months old with 53k and now 70k, :-). I commute 63 miles one way Monday to Thursday and even longer now on Friday with 95% highway. I do see the OLM goes...

    Chinese front-end parts

The MD case happened in '80s. MD couldn't sustain the competition with Boeing. So MD had to seek extra markets to survive and of course China was the best one at the time, and even now, if MD is still there. '80s was also the honeymoon of US and China and Uncle Sam only OKed but even sweetened...

    Chinese front-end parts

Not trying to start a political dicussion here , but how many of you know the official name of Taiwan is "Republic of China" and the official map of RoC (still in use in TW technically speaking) include both parts. I am just amazed that the US media can make almost every American thinks Taiwan...

    Chinese front-end parts

No, logically speaking, what you said doesn't make sense (we are talking about car here not cameras). China can send human to outer space and satellite to moon too but still can't make decent cars. But your point is well taken, blaming China is pointless. If you want to enjoy the low prices...

    Chinese front-end parts

Well, now I see more and more stuffs in Wallyworld are in fact made in India, vietnam, etc, and maybe even Cuba in the near future. Soon you will find out that India is the new China and you will have a lot more targets, :-).

    Chinese front-end parts

But you should avoid those on the first place, right? BTW, I never see any aftermarket part without a brand. An example, please? The ones I used at least had a brand called valueCRAP.

    Chinese front-end parts

Yeah, it's the brands that should be blamed. Funny thing is that people like to blame China. Just like the toys, how come nobody points their figure to Mattel, huh? When Mattel exploits those poor Chinese workers and frequently pushes for the lowest bids, what do you expect? Blaming China is...

oil for GM 3.8 series II

I have a 96 Pontiac Bonneville, second model year with 3.8L II. Just passed 177k this week and I used 5W30 of any synthesis on sale for the last 55k. Car runs happily at 135 miles/day, :-).

So how about the uncle sam's version of syntec?

AAP has 5 quarts syntec synthesis with a mobile 1 filter for 28. Too bad no GC.

    auto-rx related? hesitate,check engine light

96 pontiac bonneville se, 3.8L non-supercharger. almost 138 k miles. Short story: the car hesitate during acceleration, check engine light on, yellow, steady. It can never go higher than 3000 rpm. But it can go to at least 75 mph, no problem, just slower because of the small rpm number. Haven't...

Oil and OCI recomm for GM 3.8L? Long commute

Oh, another funny thing. The manual recommends against 5W30. It says one could use it if the temperature never goes beyong 60F. Otherwise, use 10W30 only. Were 5W30 and 10W30 quite difficult in 96?

Oil and OCI recomm for GM 3.8L? Long commute

Hi guys, what kind of oil and OCI do you recommend for this situation? Thanks! 96 pontiac bonneville, 3.8L (non-supercharger), 137k miles on the motor now. Manual calls for 12 months/7500 miles OCI for highway travelers. Funny thing is that the manual doesn't specify which S* category. Oh, by...

    Max life syth

Ah, BITOGer in Michigan. Sorry, , I may have to do daily commuting from Lansing to Ann Anbor starting this summber. How bad it would be? I know according to the map, it's 1 hour drive. But anybody has real-life figure? Also how about winter and snow, those sorts of things? Thank you very much...

water in oil, seeking advice. Thanks!

This engine does not have a separated oil fill tube and cap. The fill cap is built in with the dipstick in one long unit. Too bad I can't see the oil inside at all. Judging by the length of the dipstick, the oil is very deep inside and a falshlight didn't help. Here was what I saw today. First...
