Can I mix oil viscosity and brand?

That may not be all they don't understand.

    Put 5W-20 in 5W-30 Mower

Yes but too low of a MOFT is exactly how you create wear. For what reason should I or anyone risk that happening? Just to get 100 square feet extra of cutting per tank? There's no downside. I also use a Euro approved oil for the other benefits such as proven deposit resistance. My Toro aluminum...

Reading stuck 75k NGK Iridium plugs in 3.0 V6 Honda.

I’m not sure I understand what the coating has to do with it? It’s still the different expansion rate that helps.

    Put 5W-20 in 5W-30 Mower

Of course not since that is a 40-grade oil. Physics matters, an oil of a higher HT/HS won’t damage the engine but one with too low most certainly can.

Can I mix oil viscosity and brand?

That's one key. The other (and at least equally important key) is to prevent metal-to-metal contact in the engine as the oil thins due to heat. An inadequate MOFT will kill the engine pretty quick. An engine full of oil at a temperature where the film thickness is insufficient won't prevent...

Can I mix oil viscosity and brand?

Here are a few previous threads on mixing oils. There is also the Widman caclulator to determine your resulting grade. https://bobistheoilguy.com/forums/threads/mixing-oils.315053/ https://bobistheoilguy.com/forums/threads/mixed-oil-debate.334979/...

Long Term 5w-30 use in Honda 1.5t

That's actually quite complicated. And the complexity is further complicated by the various ways in which the apparent octane rating is achieved. In the most traditional sense (where octane is the only molecule) then it is affected by the branching of the isomers. Greater branching leads to a...

Is the recommended 0-20 bad for engine life?

Yeah that's a bit of a stretch. Perhaps just trying to make a point of some sort. It seems as though sometimes people want to brag about how thin of an oil they use.

Is the recommended 0-20 bad for engine life?

If you want it to warm up faster then a thicker oil will help with that.

Me too. Dollar store generic zip-lock sandwich bags are economical.
