Thanks, I had to research that, but now see what it is.

Ok, that explains alot, much clearer oil than a diesel. Thanks for the explanation.

    Motor Guard By-Pass Filter

All of this oil came from my crankcase. What I did was drain my oil after running it for 3600 miles. I then poured it into a clean poly bucket and set up the 116 hour filtering test. I took a sample of the drained oil just before I started the test and then another sample at the end of the test...

    Motor Guard filter change

I would have thought that you would check for soot, after reading Blackstone's comments (below) about not being able to do a particle count on "black oil". My test on them checking for soot was confusing and not conclusive on my modifications. I have those results posted as of yesterday.

    Motor Guard By-Pass Filter

In order for me to evaluate my modifications to the M100D Motorguard Air Filter to use it as a By-Pass Oil Filter, I set up a bench test you can see in earlier posts. I took a sample of oil with about 3600 miles on it from my 87 300D Mercedes, set that sample aside, marked it and then proceeded...

    Motor Guard By-Pass Filter

I have revised the attached drawing and parts list to reflect modifications to use Ralph Wood's idea for the washer and lockring on my M100D Air Filter. See earlier post #15 dated Aug 29, 2024 where this is discussed.

    Motor Guard By-Pass Filter

Just to keep you guys in the loop, I bench filtered the next sample for about 120 hours and sent the unfiltered and filtered samples to Blackstone Labs today. I had decent printing of the Amazon Boardwalk Toilet Paper Roll both top and bottom post filtering.

The pumping action heats the oil. It took a couple of hours to stabilize at 175F, rising from ambient of 85F.

    Motor Guard By-Pass Filter

My apologies for not responding sooner, apparently I am not getting email notifications. I sent in an oil sample back in November after setting up a bench test for a few days of filtering. I did not understand the results, so today, 5-29-25, I called Blackstone Labs and explained that I was...

    Motor Guard By-Pass Filter

Concerning the sketch and parts list above, I will be modifying the sketch to shorten the smaller end of the machined aluminum tube by approximately .175" to accommodate a 1-5/16 External Retaining Ring, McMaster Carr p/n 97633A350 at .050" thick and a "washer" I also purchased from...

Hold off on using those sketches, jimmyjamesndt has brought a potential issue to my attention. See above.

    Motor Guard By-Pass Filter

Thanks for the question! You have just clued me into why Ralph Wood had that washer and lockring in place. I need physical items in hand to brainstorm. I have a hard time with mental envisioning. This has caused me to give more thought to my aluminum center tube. As of this question, using an...

    Motor Guard By-Pass Filter

My adapter below that I machined is based on the information obtained from this site, Detroit Garage and the Google file sharing site with pictures and details of previously modified M30s, M60s, M100s. Note, my dimensions are pulled from the adapter I machined to fit my M100D. My Motor Guard...

    Motor Guard By-Pass Filter

So I found the Kirkland 4-1/2 long rolls at the local Costco. Unwrapped about 14 rounds of tissue from one and squeezed the center with clear boxing tape to help with the center bulge. Very resistant to blowing through this setup with my mouth. I gave it a underwater 15 - 20 psi air pressure...

    Motor Guard By-Pass Filter

Yes, agreed, these short rolls are not imprinting with the top and bottom flow channels. Who carries 4-1/2 tall rolls that are tightly wound? Thanks!

    Motor Guard By-Pass Filter

Hello everyone, I have begun modification of a Motor Guard Filter for automotive oil by-pass usage. I have lurked here for quite awhile, spoke / texted Detroit Garage, watched his videos, downloaded the hand sketches of modifications, etc. I purchased a "medical version" of the filter and it is...
