    ST 3614 cut open *pics*

looks good. i have had my doubts about the whole ecore design, but it seems to be doing fairly well. Does anybody have any data about element collapse on those things? from reading their brochure, they "claim" to have a higher collapse pressure, but i dont really believe it. i believe that the...

    What happened to Fram quality?

eddie... its not that FRAM filters are the pits, they are good filters, people just dont think they are worth the price they charge for them. FRAM extraguard is a decent filter but they definately do get better as you move up the chain. I personally like the toughguard line, pretty much the same...

    Mazda3 Cartridge Filter

I also have a Mazda3 with the cartridge filter. I am currently only running a 5000 mile interval with a Wix filter. I dont see the problem in making the OCI longer. I was also looking into switching to the spin-on filter. But, wouldnt that void the warranty because we modified the oil system...

    Latest Filter Efficiency Data

yota4me - did he mention anything about the test parameters? that seems to be an excellent multi-pass rating. im wondering how they can get that good of results? the flow rate must be low or something. what is the restriction numbers for that efficiency, that might have something to do with it...

Concerned and need advice about my two pureones

i would not be too concerned with the fact that you can move it. how far does is move up and down? if its just slightly, no big deal. if you can move it 1/4" then you might want to return it. center tubes are made a touch shorter to ensure that the media is seated into the glue on the end caps...

    Fram vs STP Fram defect?!?!

i wouldnt hesitate to use the frams for a 3,000 OCI. either one would be fine as long as the media is secured properly to the ends. the stp looks good too.

Concerned and need advice about my two pureones

it is not supposed to be glued to the media at all. its really not even glued to the end caps. the media is held in place around the center tube and the end caps are glued to the ends of the media. therefore the only way for the centertube to be glued to anything is if a little of the glue...

    PLEAT SPACING UNIFORMITY

Pleat spacing is not all that important. It doesnt necessarily cause tears in the media, but it definately doesnt help matters. The problem generally occurs near the "clip" or wherever the two ends of the media are joined together. This is because the tooling has to get in there to "clip" the...

    New here experts

The FRAM HP filters are a racing oil filter. They are not made for effieciency but rather flow. They have a high flow rate which in returns lowers the efficiency. They do have a stronger body and are a very sturdy filter... but not worth it if you plan on using them in your everyday driver.

    Suggestions for 2005 Mazda 3

Im not sure what blend I will go with. Does anybody have any suggestions? Im really not even sure what is out there. I have used the Castrol blend in the past. Is this a good oil to use or not? Im open to anything.

    Suggestions for 2005 Mazda 3

Thanks everybody for the response. I think im going to stick with the current cartridge type filter and run a syn. blend for now. I will be using a Wix filter and probably a 4-4.5k OCI, until the warranty is up.

    Suggestions for 2005 Mazda 3

Most of my driving is highway. I have had the car for about 8 months and already have close to 17k on it. Im probably gonna end up right around about 24k a year, with I would say 80% highway and 20% city. Thanks!

    Suggestions for 2005 Mazda 3

I have a 2005 Mazda 3 with the 2.3L engine. If you dont already know, it uses the cartridge type oil filter. The only filter I can find to fit my car is either the mazda filter or a wix(57203 - this is what I have been using). I am thinking about running the wix filter with mobil 1 synthetic...

    Resurrecting old topic--short center tubes

Sounds good to me Big O Dave! Straight CT's tend to collapse a lot easier than spiral CT's. If you look, I bet most racing and heavy duty filters will have spiral CT's for sure. Most others, ie. 3387, 8A and so on will have a straight CT. If you think about it, spiral seems like it would be...

    Autolite Oil filters at Wal-Mart

Sorry I am so late on the topic, but i just found the thread today. From what I have heard, WM will no longer carry Motorcraft filters, but will instead carry Autolite. They wanted something to compete with the "wall of orange." Even though we all know that FRAM and Autolite are both owned by...

The Fram HP1 is NOT just a PH8A with a heavy case...

OK...thats fine. But how much pressure were you applying? Im sure the application for that filter does not have that much pressure flowing through it. Therefore, the filter will hold up just fine for the given application. That does not make sense at all. The bypass valve cannot go anywhere...

    Champion Labs: Mistakes or Lies?

What do you think they do with a sheet of media? They just throw the sheet on there, hit start and let it go. To me, it seems like the work would be about the same, if not more for sheet testing. Has anybody ever seen the single pass performed on both sheets and filters? I would like to know...

    Champion Labs: Mistakes or Lies?

Hmmmm...interesting information. I agree with everythng up to the point of "Single pass is usually for a sheet ( grade) of "cured" media. Hence the commonality of testing for multiple "brands" of filters." From what I have heard and read in the past, a single pass test is run on a complete off...

The Fram HP1 is NOT just a PH8A with a heavy case...

Why is the "correct" term "cardboard endcaps?" I have seen others use the term "endisk" and I choose to only because it is quicker and easier to type. Endcaps or endisks, I could really care less about what theyre called, everybody understands what they are. And no, I do not work for FRAM.

Fram Efficiency Ratings for 5 Models... Mel and Others??

I would agree that FRAM is a highly marketed brand. But I disagree that they are of low quality. Dont they have to be put through testing and quality before they can hit the shelves? If they were making a filter that didnt live up to SAE standards, wouldnt they be forced to fix the issues...
