What is special about CVT ATF?

This is the mystery I'd like to debunk here as well. If Castrol can rate their fluid as CVT/ATF compatible and it has the color red designated, I wonder if it's a marketing hype on the OEM or if there is something truly different between the two fluids. I do enjoy Castrol's products

What to do with gallons of DEX III atf

If it's not that old, we have a use for it in our fleet. You can still use DEX/MERC III in some modern transmissions and it'll actually improve the shift quality, you'd be surprised at the flame resistance on it as well. We use it in place of toyota WS/SP-IV and Mercon LV. Transmission shops...

Toyota 1NZ-FE oil filter oversize application

I do like using the Purolators, if I can get them on sale. Same with Fram, Royal purple or Amsoil. Donaldson is a good filter as you've probably recalled from other like-minded posts. If I can get a bigger filter on the vehicle without jeopardizing the canister, that means I'll get better...

Toyota 1NZ-FE oil filter oversize application

To continue on. I just recalled from memory the PH/XG3600 being an 8PSI filter from the hayday. That Fram 3600 filter commonly used on Ford applications, I meant no emotion whatsoever and I was going on based on fact I wasn't updated. You can possibly use the Motorcraft FL400S if you chose to...

Toyota 1NZ-FE oil filter oversize application

I wouldn't recommend running that oil filter in particular due to the nature of the 14 PSID By-Pass Valve Toyota is calling for. The XG3600 opens at 8PSI and first start of the engine oil pressure is always going to be higher. If I would recommend an oil filter I'd have recommend to go with...

So... Toyota WS and Aisin WS are not the same.

It's a pretty good fluid, you can't go wrong.

So... Toyota WS and Aisin WS are not the same.

Castrol.... If you are going this route, per Castrol's directions is to remove any remaining old fluid. My way is to remove the cooling puck from the transmission and make a fitting to slip into the bore of the supply side; if memory serves correctly, it is the left hole on the transmission. You...

    2021 Camry ATF change

Ah yes, the UB80E/F transmission. Rav4, Camry, Chevrolet/Cadillac-AWF8F45 BMW-GA8F22AW. Also used in the start of 2013 Lexus RX350 sport and some Volvo models. This one is easy to service with the know how, it is a time consuming process. I've pieced up this instructional bit for the diy...

Best oil for the fleet of turo/getaround/uber vehicles

This is by far the best non trolling post of BITOG. I have to agree, these cars do not have much downtime. I would like to tend to these vehicles in the most intelligent manner possible, I have a great relationship with my customers. Any other tech out there in that Chicago is unmatched, one of...

Both cars are driven rather hard, surprised to see very high metal content.

    5w-30 for new Honda 3.5L v6

I was waiting for this post. Dexos1 Gen 3 allows for 0w20 or 0w30. In the end I'm gonna say run whatever you feel is suitable for your application. With this being said, get yourself an oil analysis kit. It will give you the data you want to see.

ATF SP-IV was replaced with Pennzoil Platinum High Mileage. Will it damage my Transaxle? Help!

SP-IV, ATF4 is the actual equivalent. Putting dexron vi in this transmission would result in harsh shifting characteristics. ATF4 with the enhanced additive package for the Dodge/Chrysler vehicles actually benefits the transmission due to the design/shift characteristics. As I've pulled apart...

So... Toyota WS and Aisin WS are not the same.

Depending on the application I sway between a few brands. U300 series goes back into early 2000's which called for the original spec of type T-IV (they switched it to WS if I can recall 2004) so those will get the MAG1 Multi vehicle ATF. Shifts are more consistent, where I get a decent, yet...

So... Toyota WS and Aisin WS are not the same.

Typical failure I see is valve body galling. I notice this on both the u660, u760e units. B1 apply boost valve as little as 76k miles. (this results in lazy shifts) 120k-130k moniker C2 control valve shears the valve body resulting in jerky shifts in the 4-5-6 or 4th gear slam (you'll feel this...

ATF: Amsoil Signature vs Toyota WS vs Idemitsu

Based on my experience I would recommend the Amsoil signature series fuel efficient ATF. The OE tends to run a little thinner on the viscosity. I know people mention to "stick with the OE." Run WS if you're keeping the warranty. Run the SS if you want better protection especially if you're towing.

So... Toyota WS and Aisin WS are not the same.

The site covers it pretty well in terms of evidence. It's not a full synthetic fluid, it's a run of the mill semi synthetic.. In the fleet vehicles I oversee, the WS fluid does not handle fleet usage very well. It comes out dark and oxidized. The black tarnish on filters and valve bodies. When I...
