2018 Jeep Compass 100k+ Mile Plugs

Or at least I think they are. Kiddo has had this car since around 50k, and while I've done some of the work, I'm not the one responsible for choosing when that work is done (IE it is her responsibility to tell/ask me). Either way, car has 108k on it now and these, for all the world, look like...

    Champ PH2835 (Ecore) C&P

Came off my Kohler 7000 Series V-Twin. 40 Hours on the filter. Oil would have been from my 'mix jug' which is the tail ends of whatever I use for the cars. Likely a bunch of Synthetic and HM Havoline, and then some Valvoline as I transitioned over to bay boxes. Nothing spectacular. Filter...

    Microgard MGL57060 C&P

Came off the kids 2018 Jeep Compass 2.4. Sadly, I have no clue how many miles on it. I suspect she's been riding around with the change oil notice on for a while.....as in, the last time I logged an oil change was August 2023, but her and the wife swear I changed it in December. I don't keep...

    Champion COS3593A - C&P (7000 Miles Honda J-Series)

Removed from our 305,000 mile 2003 Accord V6 (J30A4) a little over 7000 miles in service. Nothing abnormal. Continue to like these filters, which is nice because I bought a dozen of them and I'm only halfway through.

    FL500S (Date Code: 905062513)

Bought 7 of them. Used one today, cut one open tonight. Not the best filter I've ever seen, but I don't see it being a problem for 5k changes on the F150 Hybrid.

    OEM Motorcraft FL500S AA5E-6714-EA (2025 F150 Powerboost Hybrid)

This is the filter that came on my 2025 Powerboost F150 (3.5TT Engine) Total Miles on Filter - 1025 Nothing to write home about as far as construction. Oil sure did look 'shiny'. Just like a lot of hybrids, these engines go through a LOT of stop start cycles.

Adding a Drain Plug to your 10R80 ($80 aluminum pan)

No, this isn't a how-to. No, I'm not affiliated with the company in any way. It was just brought to my attention that there's a new player in the 10R80 aluminum drain pan market and the price is almost too good to be true. From the looks of the pictures, it doesn't look to be as stout as the...

    The Hudson Helicopter Crash

Didn't hear about it until today. What absolutely heart wrenching footage. No signs of trouble until the very end, looks like the bird just came apart at the seams. Juan seems to think gearbox lockup, seems to me that failed transmission mounts would do the same thing. Time will tell. Yikes.

Wife Lands Plane after Husband Dies

Not sure how this one slipped under my radar. Apparently happened back in Oct 2024. I can't even begin to imagine her stress during this whole thing.

    Interesting 10R/10L Video from a Rebuilder (10 Speed Ford/GM)

Speed him up to at least 1.5x, otherwise it is a really slow video. They seem to be more focused on the higher-torque models, but he says a few things here (regarding the 10R80 and 10L90) that I've been preaching for some time regarding the valve bodies. Mainly, they are super sensitive to...

    RV/Camper 1200 Watt Solar Install

Ok, it is our vacation tiny house on wheels (RV). I've documented this elsewhere, I thought I'd bring it to BITOG as well. This project suffered from tremendous scope creep from what I had intended. Most new RV's these days come with 12v compressor fridges, and my main goal was to be able to...

    2024-10-10-11 Massive Solar Storm Underway

We don't get aurora very often here in GA, but tonight there is a massive solar storm ongoing. https://spaceweather.com/ Took this just about 10 min ago.

2020 Ranger Rear Pad/Rotor Replacement Notes (Quality is job....whatever)

At 58,000 miles I couldn't stand the shudder from the rear of the truck when under braking while towing. It isn't uncommon for these trucks to have rear brake problems, and I had them. The job is a pretty standard rotor/pad replace with the parking brake type calipers. A few things I noted on...

Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut - New World Records

Yes yes, hypercars are silly and none of us will ever own them. I have a soft spot for Koenigsegg though, mainly because of all the cool things they try and the development work they do. They're not just buying an engine from someone and slapping a pretty body around it. They have apparently...

    Ford Variable Pressure Oil Pump

Doesn't really work how I thought it would. Someone finally came up with the correct PID in order to pull oil pressure data from our trucks and today was the first time I've had a chance to log a short trip to work on the local highway. Data here...

2003 Accord Brake Light Switch (Story Time)

Keep in mind, these events happened right at the end of a 13 hour shift for me and I should have been at home asleep. 0640 - Wife calls me at work and informs me that 'Spot' our 2003 Accord seems to be slipping in first gear. I sigh and tell her to drive it home gently this afternoon from work...

Francis Scott Key Bridge (Baltimore) hit by Cargo Ship and Collapsed

Breaking news from 0127 this morning. A container ship took out the bridge. The bridge carries I695 across the river and is part of the beltway around the city. https://www.cnn.com/us/live-news/baltimore-bridge-collapse-03-26-24-intl-hnk/index.html Wow... not really any words to describe...

Fixing a 7 Pin Trailer Plug (Strain Relief)

As far as I know, there aren't a lot of options for fixing a 7 pin trailer plug that the cable jacket has separated from the plug, potentially letting water/corrosion into the plug. I didn't want to just goop some silicone on it since that would just break off during use. 3d printer to the...

3D printing a fix for my Matco box

I bought this fairly nice roller bearing Matco box in 1995 and had already replaced the drawer stops once right after I bought it. Turns out, whatever material they were made out of just decided to up and crumble this fall, leaving me with drawers that won't stay shut. I figured I'd order up...

    Dave Marcis - Shop Tours

Stapleton42 is back with a tour/interview with Dave Marcis. What a cool dude, from the days when Nascar was actually worth watching.
