    Bridgestone Alenza A/S 02

That's quite a mouthful when they could've just named them Bridgestone Junk. OK, so we'll stick to a long name: how about Bridgestone DitchFinder 365? I've never, ever, had an OEM tire this bad - they came stock on the wife's '23 Equinox AWD. I bet if I got the FWD version, it'd have come...

Chevy L83/GenV 5.3 oil pump noisy

Long story short, I replaced my original L83 variable output oil pump 'cause the solenoid took a dump (P06DD). New one is working fine, but noisy/whining. No worse than the old one when I got the code, but I was hoping for no noise. Are these pumps inherently noisy, or is it an indication I...

    P06DD 2019 Chevy 5.3

Well, today wasn't a good day. It seems all roads lead to replacing the oil pump when this code sets; unless there was maintenance neglect (dirty oil, low oil, etc.). I've maintained my Silverado impeccably. A few months out of the powertrain warranty, unfortunately. 25K miles...what a shame...

Continue on with Kirkland 0W-20 or switch to Amsoil?

Vehicle in question is a 2019 K2 Silverado w/5.3 AFM. Purchased new, always ran the Kirkland w/short OCI's done by yours truly. Now it's out of warranty, so no Dexos no matter. Would you continue to run Dexos Kirkland or switch to Amsoil w/longer OCIs? Current mileage is 25K, no motor...

    Wiring conduit

Looking to replace sections of underhood harness conduit/loom - a lot of it is turned to dust over the years. Any recommendations on a decent brand?

    GY WeatherReady - initial review

Ponied up for a set in hopes of having one tire for all two seasons: road construction & winter. I'm liking the dry & wet traction - it's all good. However; I've lost 10% of my usual MPG: down to 27 from 30 as reported by the DIC. I'm not happy about that. These better do well next winter to...

    My Winter Tire thread

Just got done shelling out $1K for two new sets of winter tires, thought I'd start a thread to give my impressions as the season progresses. First set are the Nokian Hakka 7 in a 205/55/R16 flavor. The car is a 2008 Pontiac G5 coupe, 2.2l & M5 tranny. This will be my daily driver unless things...

    Bel-Ray in a K1500 front diff

Today I put Bel-Ray Gear Saver 80W-90 in the front diff on my '98 K1500. Never run the stuff before; it appears Bel-Ray isn't focused towards the automotive market. "Exceeds GL5 specs", so I'm not anticipating any problems. Anyone else have any experience with the stuff?

2015 Malibu: Going to lease one tomorrow

My fleet of vehicles in getting old, and my 21YO daughter (great kid) is tired of dumping $$$ into our old Tahoe just for gas to get her to work & school. So she's taking our 2014 Cruze and I'm going to lease a Malibu for the wife. The deal hinges on getting something more than scrap for my...

    I bought a '14 Cruze LT 1.4T

Hated to do it for a variety of reasons, but I pulled the trigger on one last Saturday. Stickered at $21.3K, they gave me $1K for my rotted out '00 Venture minivan. Out the door under $17K. 2% financing so I floated a 48month loan. Drove well enough for me & should be good on gas. Any advice on...

    My leaky Walbro carb saga

Just posting this here in the hopes it'll get a search engine hit & help another poor schmuck. My 2005 Simplicity mower with the Kohler Command engine had a rough fall. Numerous start-ups were accompanied by billowing white smoke...everywhere. The Walbro LMK carb was leaking fuel past the...

Oil for tired '98 5.7 vortec?

Vehicle is a '98 K1500 with 180K. Purchased used one year ago in TX, now in the upper midwest. Unknown maintenance history. It's my winter truck - I drive my '08 Pontiac in the summer for much better fuel mileage. Currently the motor runs fine - only concern is the oil pressure as shown on the...

Didn't have any 10W30 for the Kohler, so...

I put one qt. of 5W30 and one qt. of 15W40 in. Yes, they were different brands, too . Kohler 18HP on my 2005 Simplicity lawn tractor. Finished it off with a WIX 51348 filter. Comments on the mix?

I removed & lubed my ignition cylinder....

...is death & destruction headed my way???? Cliff notes: '08 G5. There's a known issue with bad cylinders; but mine has been fine from new until today. Cylinder wouldn't budge from OFF position. Got it to move one more time; then promptly removed the shroud & pulled the cylinder. Couldn't...

New RS-As getting better MPG than old Hankooks

Reference my old thread on new tires for my '08 G5. I've had the RS-As fo a good month or so and my fuel economy has improved over 1 MPG with what appears to be a softer tire, judging by the treadwear rating. I've looked up the revs/mile on tirerack's website, and the difference is small (840...

    My new tire choices

Vehicle: 2008 Pontiac G5 base Mileage: 40K Current Tires: OEM Hankook H725 in 205/55/R16 I've narrowed it down to two choices: Goodyear Eagle GT and Cooper CS4. Now I realize these are probably two dramatically different tires and I've never had a "performance" tire like the GT should be. Am I...

    4L60E, 158K, first trans service

Well, wish me luck. I picked up a 2000 OBS Tahoe this past spring. Finally got around to the trans service today. Since I discovered "American Axle" was printed on the rear diff gasket when I did that service earlier; I think it's a fair assumption the trans has never been done, as well...
