I seem to remember older cars having oil pressure guages in them... am I recalling correctly? Did they do away with this because oil pressure problems are so infrequent now? How hard would it be to install your own? On a Subaru?

I can get Mobil 1 at Costco for about $23/case. I was wondering how much 6 quarts of RP engine oil costs to see if I even want to make a switch from 1 to RP.

I saw Mobil 1 0W-40 european formula this weekend... previously I had only seen 5W-30, 10W-30, 15W-40. Now if the W number is how it flows when cold, and the second number is hot it flows when hot... or is that an over-simlification? Would 0W-40 be better than 5W-30 in the cold and just as good...

Just taking a poll here. Be as specific as you like. After my first at-home oil change, I took it to a gas station for recycling... the 1/2 quart that wasn't spilled on the driveway of course.

After much input from the oil gurus here, I drained the factory 5W-30 out of my '04 WRX and moved to 10W-30 Mobile 1. Then temps dropped to the 20s... even after I moved down to DC from PA. Am I causing any extra distress to my engine due to temps that dip into the 20s at night?

I don't know jack about oil, but it might be good to know what "pretty low" is. Are you 1/2 quart low? 2 quarts low? 4 quarts low?

One problem I could foresee with that, is if you get confused with all of the switching, and accidentally put extra virgin olive oil in there.
