    Gear oil viscosity insanity

BWs tend to have a questionable service life anyway...my main experience with BW is their transfercases, which tend to barf their guts under normal use without provication...if you can't tell, I'm not a BW fan... steved

Is the Baldwin B-164 a good bypass filter?

I asked Cummins this question: What is the micron rating of the LF778? I am looking for a bypass filter (and associated mounting head) that will filter into the 1 to 3 micron range. Thanks, Steve Fleetmaster: Steve, the LF778 has a micron rating of 10 Micron at 98% efficient and 5 Micron...

Potential cross to the Amsoil EaBP!!!!!

My whole deal with amsoil is their poor customer service...everytime I have ordered something from them, they screw it up and I end up eating the shipping or wrong product (because paying to return it and then paying to ship the correct stuff made it cost-prohibitive - this was what Amsoil told...

Potential cross to the Amsoil EaBP!!!!!

The thread is 1.5" (most likely 1.5" pipe) and has a restriction. I am going to call them (again) and ask what the restriction size is... I can completely see the use of zinc...it is a sacrificial anode the acid will preferentially attact, this would negate the loss of acid nutralizing additive...

Potential cross to the Amsoil EaBP!!!!!

I'm aware it costs more than an Amsoil, but that isn't an issue since I want rid of the Amsoil unit I have... And I feel that it would be ideal for me... steved

MTF in ATF spec Transfer Case?

Yeah, in the Jeep (and pretty much any newer chain driven tcase), running too thick a fluid will cause the oil pump to shear off and starve the bearings for oil...you can imagine the results... steved

    Bypass Filter Options?

I found that Luber-Finer has a bypass similar to the Amsoil, so that's the route I'm going to try...a little expensive, but I feel they will work good in my application. steved

Is the Baldwin B-164 a good bypass filter?

The filters cost around $40 a piece (if you hunt around for them) and the base was around $20 IIRC...I just found a Luber-Finer bypass I'm going to try, just to be different! steved

Potential cross to the Amsoil EaBP!!!!!

They are 1.5" thread, so not a direct replacement for the Amsoil. They are however as efficient as the Amsoil and bigger than the EaBP110, you really need to read their abstract on the test results...they are 2u @ 98.7%... They cost $94 (jobber)...probably less than that through a dealer...

Potential cross to the Amsoil EaBP!!!!!

http://www.luberfiner.com/products/docs/ZgardBrochure.pdf I am currently on the phone trying to get some answer on this, but it is very promising!!! You can go to their site and see the whole deal... steved

    Bypass Filter Options?

I am trying to stay with something "popular" to make sure obtaining filters wouldn't be an issue down the road...I avoided the Triple-R filters because I had never heard of them before... I have a lot of room under there...I could easily go 3 times larger than the Amsoil I currently run. I...

MTF in ATF spec Transfer Case?

I have over 60k on RP Synchromax in my 2500's transfercase...improved shifting by a lot...always drains clear. While I had horrible results with synchromax in my NV5600, my transfercase likes it... steved

Is the Baldwin B-164 a good bypass filter?

HF6604 is a hydraulic filter made by Fleetguard. It does require a different base, I can get that for you if interested...the seal surface is actually tapered. steved

Is the Baldwin B-164 a good bypass filter?

Straight from Fleetguard (and HF=hydraulic filter) 1u @ 95%, 3u @ 98.6%, and 5u @ 99.5%...that website you list should also show a FASS, which is what I run for a fuel system. The HF uses synthetic fibers (I had one apart)... steved

Is the Baldwin B-164 a good bypass filter?

I crossed the B164 to a Fleetguard LF778. I have an information request in to Fleetguard to find out the micron rating of the Fleetguard version...they tend to have better filters generally. I am also going to start looking into running a HF6604 with a restriction...they have a 1 micron rating...

    Bypass Filter Options?

OK, I'm looking for bypass filter options... I own an Amsoil, but I'm not impressed...the EaBPs don't work as good as the BEs IMO...and at $40/filter, I'd expect them to be better. I'm not happy with their service either. Looking at the Frantz, 3k filter changes...I drive cross country, that...

    Would you hate me??

Yeah, the cooler fit into the PTO covers...the fill plug is only a little over half the height of the center of the PTO covers, so if I fill to say the top of the PTO covers (and the coolers), that should put the oil at that extra height above the fill. And considering the "normal" fill with the...
