No comment on the filter….but you’ve piqued my interest running a 5w30 oil. Why? It’s spec’d for a 5w40 which would be better for a “severe oil burner”. If anything try a synthetic 15w40 weight, euro if possible, and run it hard for a couple quick oil changes to see if cleaning the rings makes...

I think you only had 1100 miles on the Amsoil UOA and the engine was still breaking in? Be difficult to compare HPL to Amsoil unless you do a similar test with Amsoil afterwards….

My Honda em6500sx with a GX390 engine. At 75 meters you’re not sure if it’s running. Not bad for an open-frame generator. 😉

Yah, why use a “Jack-of-all-trades” oil that’s not really good at anything ?! Try Amsoil AUV 10w40 and be done with it 😉

I’m not sure why the worry about whether a premium oil is warranted or not. Each of us can run whatever we like as long as the oil meets the minimum standards required!! No one should judge what anyone wants to use/pay either. What we should focus on is that the generator or water pump or other...

Just a reminder for anyone deciding to takeover servicing their own standby generator….be sure to remove the starter fuse and/or unplug the spark plug wires. (the manual should have directions how best to disable it) The last thing you want is to have the generator kick into service/test mode...

Easy to say now, but no-one admits to neglect when a transmission goes south without having ANY maintenance done. A couple of hours work and the old fluid is replaced with new. If nothing else, it's a good feeling that something was accomplished...;>) I'm glad that my X390 trans is serviceable...

Could also use the Amsoil Premium Protection 10w40 AMO. It has High ZDDP numbers which would probably be good for a 30 year old motor…😉

A 2000w MIGHT handle it, but only if you didn’t have anything else running on it. Even a light or two, or TV….🤷
