Kawasaki FX 850 Oil= Mobil 1 15W50 every 100 hrs. Filter= Wix 51394 every 200 hrs.

When you go to shut it down, let it idle for 1 or 2 minutes. This will cool down engine & oil and should help with backfire. If engine has an oil cooler, check inlet side for debris. The engine on my ZTR runs 260F+ all the time.

My FX 850 came with a 49065-7010 filter which is now 49065-0724. This is a Wix 51394 or Fram PH4967. They fit perfect. I'm sure a Wix 51348 will also fit, it is only 1/4 inch larger in diameter at the gasket.

That true. The point is to keep the cylinder and head free of trash. Most other engines, when they overheat, cook the oil and throw a rod. Proper oil and a little maintenance, they will last well past 2000 hours.

Check out Wix 24076 or Napa 4076 filter base. They take 3/4 x 16 filters. If you use a filter with a ADV, no check valve is needed. I like your needle valve plan. Put it on the outlet side and you won't have to worry about it cloging up.
