    Microgreen filters

I use them, but not as intended. I buy them during their frequent half off sales and use them as a premium filter with Mobil 1 5w30 EP. On my Toyotas, I change oil and filter every 10,000 miles. On my Chevy Volt, I follow the OLM. Since almost of my miles are electric, this means I change oil...

    Ecotec filter cap needs replacement?

Check with a GM dealer - I believe that Saturn changed the cap and the filter type in a TSB.

Drain oil in filter when reusing?

I don't. If I don't care enough to change the filter, I don't care enough to get rid of the extra half pint of oil. If I care enough to get rid of the extra half pint of oil, I care enough to change the filter. Really easy decision.

    Oil life monitors

I drive a '15 Chevy Volt. This means that I can go for weeks at a time without actually running the engine. And, the owners manual says that you need to change the oil every 2 years (~100 weeks) at the very least. And, predictably, my oil life decreases by 1% every week whether I use the engine...

What do you consider 'low' and when do you add?

I keep it at the "Full" mark unless it's getting late into the oil change interval. Then I let it go down as far as the "Add" line to minimize the amount of add-in oil I put in for the interval. When putting new oil in and filter on, I get the oil to the "Full" line to start the interval. If...

    Happy Father's Day!!

My father and best friend died almost 14 years ago. But, I never lost him. I'm incredibly grateful for the technical skills and moral standards that he lovingly instilled in me and, therefore, to my children. Through them, we have never lost my dad. Happy Father's Day, Dad!

Gave the old girl a bath today...

I'm amazed that complicated rotors like this can perform safely while spinning so quickly that centrifugal forces are desperately trying to blow them apart! Coolness!
