    Magnets on a MicroGreen 200-6

    Magnets on a MicroGreen 200-6

Howdy Gents! I've got a Chevy Volt that I'm playing with. One of the things I'm playing with is the oil and filter. I figure this is the place to post my results. I put about 2,000 miles on the engine for this filter. (The Volt is an electric car that also has an engine). I'm running Pennzoil...

I bought way too much oil.

    System1 reusable oil filters

An oil filter you have to mess with every oil change for ~$165? For that price, you can probably get 20 or so Fram Ultra filters which will do a better filtering job, and are less hassle. I don't see how the analysis closes for the System One filter.

For those who think conventionals = synthetics...

I've got to say that I'd go with Mobil 1. I'm at a place in my life that the cost of motor oil is not significant*, so I can look at the purchases I've made in order to tell. I've bought Mobil 1, I've never purchased SuperTech (conventional or synthetic). Why Mobil 1 over SuperTech? I just have...

What is your favorite premium oil filter?

I'm partial to MicroGreen filters, but I also picked up a few Mobil 1 filters at Walmart for $10 each.

    Magnets on filters

In short: New bottles, new labels, same oil with a 4 year shelf-life, and you don't need to shake before using.

    Magnets in oil filter ring?

Google "Motion Pro oil filter magnets." They're for motorcycles, but they work great for cars. The manufacturer says they only last 5 changes, but I think they last forever. Just don't drop them - they're brittle.

    M1 Annual Protection?

I can't justify the ~$25 more per jug for 5,000 miles extra, but you have to change it at least yearly. For my Chevy Volt, 4 quarts of NAPA synthetic ($12 on sale) will last me 2 years. Since XOM told me to ignore the OLM, I must change Annual Protection every year, at a cost of $100 over 2...
