Motor oil is pretty much all I buy at WalMart and I'll confess I don't look forward to store visits. I wanted to try Castrol Magnatec in my Acura TLX, but the spec'd 0w-20 is not one of the viscosities stocked by WalMart in my area. Thus my introduction to using WalMart's website.

Not only was Magnetec on rollback for $17.88/5 quart jug, because my order was more than $35, 2 day shipping was free. Arrived on time via UPS and in good shape; even the caps were taped to prevent leaks during shipment. And no worries about the oil being compromised by a WalMart shopper.

I realize this is hardly news to many here, but cheap, on-time, bigger selection than what's in-store, incredibly convenient and time-saving. What's not to like?

The home delivery is nice when you get it. Order 2 oil changes with a filter and you get free shipping.
Also, sometimes the online price is cheaper than the instore price, so an even better deal. If I ever get to the point when I have to pay retail for oil, WM online will probably be what I do.
2 jugs ST HM/ST filter for the truck and 1 jug ST syn (or Magnatec or whatever syn is on rollback) and ST filter for the car.

That is at least 2 years away though with my current stash of oil and filters, and I am sure I will get more before then.

It's always free in-store pick-up. So anytime you can't make the minimum purchase for free shipping, just have it sent to local store and get it there

I go really only for synthetic oil and now Fram Ultra filters. Good to be reminded about the mail order option.

After some poor experiences years ago, the wife won't step foot in it but prefers to go directly across the street to Target (and get 5% off).

I can totally relate about going into Walmart only for motor oil. Every time I go into the local Autozone or NAPA, I'm reminded that it's hard to beat oil prices at Walmart. My wife will pick up a few other things there, and we typically get toiletries there also.

Every time I go to Walmart, I'm reminded of why I prefer to avoid the store. but I'm not willing to pay $10 or $15 extra for an oil change, just to avoid Walmart. I will admit, it is entertaining to people watch at Walmart.

I avoid Target, hate their CEO's politics, will never set foot in one again!

BTW, thanks for posting this, it made me get around to getting my cheap Mobil 1 with the rebate going on now.

Two 5 qt jugs of Mobil 1 5w-30 is $49.54 total with free 2 day shipping (arrives Wednesday though due to weekend, no biggie).
Rebate will net me $24 back, so about $2.55/qt.
Not the greatest I have ever done, but still not bad at all for sitting on my butt.

Wow... I totally forgot about this issue. Just checked the six 5-quart jugs I bought at Walmart on Friday and at least one is water.

I know it wasn't your orignal intension, but thanks for saving me $120! Back it goes...

I am no fan of Wally World at all. But I do like Harris Teeter quite a bit.
It is obvious that Wally World is very hard to beat on oil prices though. For Castrol Magnatec to be $18 for five qts is tough to beat. Even Havoline DS regular everyday price of $13.27 is really good. Not to mention all of the synthetic oil prices are less than $25 usually. For the exceptions of Mobil 1 annual protection, Mobil 1 extended performance, Castrol gold bottle. I just don't get why the parts stores aren't far more competitive in terms of pricing. The sales can bring them down enough to be all right. But why aren't they better priced to begin with is what I wonder? How many stores does AAP, and AZ have? It is not like they don't have enough stores to not buy in bulk in order to get a better deal/price.

We really like the Target near our house, but it is useless for automotive...they have quarts for 2-3 lines of oil in a couple of grades, that's it. Lots of clean and shine products!

I don't think they're trying to attract the DIY oil change crowd, anyway...there's a Starbucks, café, lots of trendy items like kombucha and hummus, fresh bakery goods, etc. I think their main focus is stay at home moms who are well to do, but not so rich that they don't shop for themselves.

Yeah, Target dropped their oil filter and air filter sales about 10 years ago and really contracted their automotive isles into about one half isle. Hipsters do not change their own oil it seems.

With WM parking lots full of customers vehicles across the fruited plain, it appears WM is the favorite store for many folks.
