Age to cut the kids off.

I'm in a similar situation to the OP. My wife has two boys, one 24 this month and the other 27 in a couple more months. The oldest has a college degree, but doesn't have a steady job and did finally move out of our house and in with his father. The younger still lives with us, has a job but...

ZF 8 speed fluid change questions.

To the extent of my knowledge: The most recent iteration of the Mopar pan does NOT have a replaceable filter and does NOT have a fluid drain plug. The Dorman pan DOES have both a replaceable filter and a fluid drain plug, which is why I bought that one. The price was the same, but I like...

ZF 8 speed fluid change questions.

To the best of my knowledge, yes. I am the second owner. I contacted the previous owner and also the dealership that did all the service for the previous owner and it sounded like the trans, t-case, and both axles had been neglected. So I did the service on all of those items myself when I...

Those with 150,000 miles or more, check in

2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee 3.6L V6 crossed 200,000 on Tuesday of this week. Had a new water pump at 198k and no other repairs to the engine so far. Has gotten dealership bulk oil changes mostly, but I switched to Valvoline Restore and Protect yesterday and will do that on my own from here on...

Valvoline R&P - Engine Builder Mag

Well I have a 3.6 Pentastar engine in a Jeep that has 200,020 miles on it, allegedly all on dealership bulk 0W20 oil. There's the typical drivetrain clatter, and the oil dipstick shows varnish so I'm assuming the internals also have varnish. I just switched to Valvoline Restore and Protect...

ZF 8 speed fluid change questions.

I changed the pan/filter assembly and fluid in my 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee with this 8 speed trans last month. Had 199,000 miles on the clock. Drained the fluid and it was black and nasty as expected. Then swapped the pan/filter assembly using a Dorman pan to maintain a drain plug (the new OE...

Any Red Flags with this Subaru?

The only thing I see wrong with it is that it's a Subaru. My buddy bought one for his wife when they had their first child. The "boxer" style engine drank engine oil as fast as gasoline. It turned into a nightmare, dealer was no help, finally found out there was a class action lawsuit over...

    PSA: Clean your sunroof drains

Just be careful pushing brushes and lines down the tubes. You can potentially cut the drain tube or push it off the sunroof track fitting. Then you've got big problems. It's a shame nobody makes a "Drain-O" style product that's safe for sunroof drain tubes. That would be the cat's meow.

Mopar 10 year/150K mile purple coolant alternatives

So if you had a 2020 Jeep vehicle that specs Mopar OAT coolant, and you only had access to these three aftermarket coolants, which one would you use to top off the system?

Does a Turbo diesel engine NEED synthetic oil?

Does Kubota make engines with 1,200 lb/ft that push trucks down the road at 70 MPH with 30,000 lbs. in tow? Back when there was no EGR, DPF, DEF, etc? And power levels were WAY lower?

Cummins Premium Blue Restore Gen 2

No sir, I'm talking about the Valvoline Premium Blue Restore. Lake Speed Jr. did a whole video on it in collaboration with Valvoline lab engineers. Unfortunately, I cannot find a place to BUY this oil anywhere!!

Cummins Premium Blue Restore Gen 2

They claim that they engineered this to clean "just the right amount" in one oil cycle so as to not overcome the capacity of the oil filter. I think I'd run a short cycle to be on the safe side. Maybe 5k miles at most.

2020 F350 6.7l diesel- oil change at dealer gone wrong

What people don't understand is that when you take your vehicle to the dealership for an oil change, you are usually not going to get a “technician” working on it. Dealers have minimum wage workers who do basic tasks like oil changes. You pay ridiculous prices for service intervals, and a 17...

    Anyone here still using 15w40?

My father has been a heavy equipment mechanic since the 1970s and still works full time today. He uses 15W40 in EVERY diesel engine including his own personal 2017 L5P Duramax. I don't know that I've ever heard him talk of an engine failure due to maintenance.

    No Engine Oil Dipstick

And I just thought of another issue. When the oil does get changed how do you know that the correct amount was just now poured back in there? You can't just use the stick to find out. You have to start the engine, warm it up, meet its criteria, then hopefully view the level (in a vague format)...

    No Engine Oil Dipstick

My wife’s new 2024 MINI Cooper Countryman S does not even have a dipstick for checking engine oil. There is a way to check oil level electronically on her infotainment screen, but it’s a little complicated to access, it only works under certain conditions, and it’s not nearly as detailed as...

Musk Says Tesla ‘Dug Our Own Grave’ With The Cybertruck

This is something that a lot of people overlook I think. Let’s say you buy a Cybertruck and a few weeks later some idiot t-bones you and causes extensive damage to it. Do you think that you will be able to just drop the truck off at a body shop and have them fix it? No way. There’s no body shop...

NTSB urges Mandate to Limit the Speed of new Vehicles to the Posted Speed limit.

Sure, you could not speed. You could also not ever smoke a cigarette. After all, second hand smoke is dangerous for the people around you. You could always avoid dangerous hobbies like hunting or riding ATVs. Don't go downtown after dark. Don't swim when you go to the beach because there are...

NTSB urges Mandate to Limit the Speed of new Vehicles to the Posted Speed limit.

My insurance company currently offers a discount. But there's a catch. I have to allow them to install a device in my vehicle that records my driving. I said absolutely not. I will pay more to maintain my freedom. I do not always want to drive 55, and occasionally if the sun is shining my...

Ford Motorcraft 10w30 diesel oil. Is it a synthetic blend?

Thanks I'll check those out. Pretty much. But to be more specific, wind chill affects ANY objects that are generating heat internally to stay warm whether they are living things or not. For example: If ambient temp is 30F outside and there is no wind, your HVAC system at home will run less...
