TRADE your gas car for EV ?

x2 and recharge it in 5 minutes without shortening battery life. Then maybe. But I just love the feeling and sound of ICE.

GM installing chargers for all EVs at dealers

I don't need you to explain anything, I get it. Don't flatter yourself. People charge them at home, but that doesn't work for many use cases. This too. I'm in WI, and my vehicles spend most of the winter outside. I don't park a dirty/salty vehicle in the garage, so parking them outside...

GM installing chargers for all EVs at dealers

So you're supposed to charge a little every day? So more plugging and unplugging and cords to trip over in the garage. Can't just be a 5 minute process once a week like ice.

GM installing chargers for all EVs at dealers

More like sitting 5 hours to charge in some podunk town after a day of off roading seems like a waste of time when with ICE I can fill up in 5 minutes and be on my way.

GM installing chargers for all EVs at dealers

Which is fine - if EVs weren't being forced on us. If the people want them, let them buy them. But same for ICE - if people want them, keep building them as well. Instead, the powers that be seem to want to force us onto a technology that can't truly replace the predecessor yet in all use cases...

GM installing chargers for all EVs at dealers

I agree. I'm not against EVs per se, I think everyone should have the choice to buy what they want without ESG getting in the way. I think for the average person to transition, they need to be fully on parity with gas for charge/refuel times, range and chargers compared to gas pumps. People...

GM installing chargers for all EVs at dealers

https://www.pcmag.com/news/gm-invites-evs-of-all-brands-to-charge-up-at-1000-dealers-nationwide?mibextid=Zxz2cZ So let me get this straight...these are level 2 chargers, so it'll take like 5-8 hours to get a full charge at one of these. Why on earth would someone sit around a dealer for that...

    07 Jeep Wrangler

I'd look for a 12+ with the Pentastar. The 3.8 was gutless and you got the 42RLE tranny which isn't great. RWD based Jeeps are the good ones, it's the FWD ones that suck. My Liberty has 224k miles and runs great. I've had two Jeeps with the 4.0 and I honestly love the 3.6 with the 8 speed trans...

automatic car washes / how do you deal with winter salt from roads

Fluid film in all the nooks and crannies. Keep fresh paint underneath, rinse it off once a week or after every storm. 18 years old and gets driven in all conditions!

Krown vs Penetroil vs other competitors for rust proofing?

Here's my 05 Liberty. 224k miles, July of 04 build date. Most of its life in Wisconsin. I paint the undercarriage annually and fill every hole with fluid film (use a 2' section of fuel line with a 360 degree tip). No rust.

    First new vehicle purchase

A Crown Vic seats 6, not sure why you didn't go that route...the BITOG special! Seriously, congrats on the vehicle and baby! What engine does it have? Do they use the 3.6 in the hybrid ones or the 2.0T like the 4xE Jeeps?

What's a fair price for a transmission fluid change on my BMW?

Paid about $600 all in for a mostly BMW shop to do the trans fluid change on my JL Wrangler with the 8 speed ZF. Labor was $250, supplies about $350 for Mopar fluid/filter/gasket.

    Land Rover Defender 90

I agree. Something like the Wrangler I think would've been ideal. Bring it into the 2020s with some of the comfort/safety tech, but keep the old school underpinnings. Jeep is getting $60-80k on most 4 door Wranglers that are loaded up, I see no reason LR couldn't have done a similar thing with...

    Land Rover Defender 90

Love the Defender and LRs in general, have two of them. I just feel like the new Defender should've been the Discovery and they should've kept the Defender as something solid axle based like it used to be to better go against the Wrangler. But now it's more of a G wagen competitor.

Sealed 100K Mile Transmissions with No Dip Stick (ATF Change) ?

Got it changed on the ZF8 in my Wrangler at 63k, dealer didn't want to touch it, took it to a euro tuner shop instead. No change in performance before or after!

Ariens 524 snow blower - drive staying engaged after lifting lever

Apologies if this is in the wrong spot! Time to start thinking about getting the snowblower ready. I had an issue last year that the drive would stay engaged even when releasing the lever. It seemed to only happen once it was warmed up and used a bit. To get the drive to disengage back to...

Would you prefer range or super fast charging?

I timed the time it takes to fill my Wrangler (21 gal tank) and it's like 3-4 mins. If they can make a 500 mile range battery and the 20-80% charge range is 400 miles, that's fine too. EVs need to be on parity with ICE in every aspect in order for everyone to get onboard. I don't want to be...

Would you prefer range or super fast charging?

Right. That's why EVs shouldn't be the sole option automakers offer. Anyone that thinks an EV, with known tech, can fully replace a gas vehicle is wrong. An EV would be an inconvenient step back for many people, including myself. If the powers want people to drive EVs, they need to match a gas...

Would you prefer range or super fast charging?

Both. Need 400 miles to a tank and be able to fully charge in 3-5 minutes just like any of my other vehicles. Essential for trips out west without having to stop too much or too long. That's what we have now, it's not really progress to backtrack on range or fill up time.
