    Never seen this before

I'd have to agree with Capri and Cardenio. I've seen this many times on commercial truck tires that have been improperly re-treaded. That'd have to be one razor sharp railroad track to 'cleanly cut' 3/4 into the tread without chunking bits of rubber out; take a [dull] knife from the kitchen and...

    mobil super 5000 vs pyb

I think it's hard to beat the price at walmart on the Mobil Super, $12 for 5qt jug and by no means is it a bad oil. The PYB I prefer over the Mobil Super as it has better specs in my opinion and has been smoother and quieter in applications I have used it in, however, its somewhere around $15.50...

Rant on Centric Premium Rotors the 120-series

Click on the pictures to see the full picture on the imagechack site but it should be fairly clear even in the thumbs. If need be I can grab the bigger picture code and edit post. The paint on the Taiwan rotors was much more durable than the easily flaked China. Also, while the Taiwan appears to...

Rant on Centric Premium Rotors the 120-series

I'm in the process of uploading some comparative pictures of the Taiwan/China Centric rotors I used on my GF's IS250 last year. This will show the varying and dismal consistency I've been getting with Centric lately. Will update thread accordingly.

Rant on Centric Premium Rotors the 120-series

That CRC stuff is garbage on slide pins and rubber boots. Probably the only thing I'd ever use it on is backing plates in between the shim [if the shims aren't already bonded]. The only reason I bought that big jar from autozone 8+ years ago is because I thought it was good back then and it was...

Rant on Centric Premium Rotors the 120-series

It was just a wire brush cup kit at Home Depot for $12. It came with a 2" cup, a 1" one, a 3" wheel, I couldn't quite get the sand-paper like flap wheel thing to fit in the crevices. I wasn't aware 3M made a hub cleaning kit? I'll have to check it out if it makes it easier than using a wire cup...

    0w-20 Oil for my Subarus

Another vote for the Mobil AFE 0W-20, did very well in my Mazda6 3.7L nice and quiet and the engine seemed smoother when revving although the fill before that was Mobil 5000 5W-20. I'm now using QSUD 0W-20 since it's less expensive [$20.97 5qt] and easily obtained from my local walmart, very...

Caliper pin bushings - remove them?

The green permatex stuff doesn't last for me or doesn't seem to as well as sil-glyde does, seems to washout easier and not stick to metal as well as sil-glyde does. I prefer the thicker consistency of the sil-glyde versus the thinner permatex green stuff. However, if I use the green permatex...

    Ate Pads

What are you using on the caliper slide pins? Sil-glyde is really the only stuff I've found to NOT swell up rubber parts; I used to use CRC stuff but that stuff swells up rubber on me. The green permatex stuff didn't last for me. O=f course for metal to metal contact points I sometimes use the...

Caliper pin bushings - remove them?

I've used the CRC synthetic brake lubricant [the dark graphite/moly stuff] in the squeeze tube, and it swelled up my rubber pin bushings on my Mazda6. I cleaned out all old grease, got a new pin boot kit from o'reilly. The kit only came with two pin bushings, whereas the factory pins had the...

Upgrade rear shocks to a monotube design?

If i recall correctly, the front brake lines go through a small section of hard line mounted on the front strut body, you'll have to disco this when replacing the front struts. Maybe do the front hoses at the same time since the system will be open? And something about the lower front ball joint...

    Recommended oils? 2.8 Audi A6

Used to have a 2.8 Audi in the family, And I'd agree with Garak. The oils he said and also Rotella 5W-40 were the ones i'd use depending on price and availability along with with OE Mann/Mahle filters. I'd run for 5k-10k depending on how much makeup she used.

Just went to QSUD after dino only for 120,000mi

I love QSUD. What I love even more is not having to use a different weight on any of the cars I service [the 0W-20 does just fine on the 08 Lexus IS250 (even though they only back spec'd on the '11 and up), even better imo than the usual 5W-30 on startup noise and smoothness etc]. $20.97 for...

    Wiper Suggestions...

I used to use the $7.99 frameless goodyear? ones from Costco, but they chatter/skipped horribly after a few months on almost all cars i've ever used them on. I now have Valeo Ultimate on all three Mazdas, well worth the initial cost and all are working very well even after a year on the cars. I...

Rant on Centric Premium Rotors the 120-series

This is just a rant on my recent experience with Centric Premium [120 series] rotors on my Mazda6. About 25k miles ago, re-did the front rotors and pads with Centric premium 120-series rotors [these were cast in China bought from discount brake warehouse online as Amazon did not stock them at...

    Notch in Front Brake Rotor

The Centric premiums you bought, were they made in China or Taiwan? I've bought more than a couple Centric premium rotors for my car and a friend's, and the ones made in Taiwan appear to be of better quality. For example, bought for a friend's IS250, the ones made in China (16.8 pounds) were a...
