Replacement for ATE Super Blue DOT 4 Brake Fluid

I am quite frankly glad the stuff is no longer available. It is billed as performance brake fluid, but I think that is kind of a joke. In the hundreds upon hundreds of track days I have attended or events I've competed in, ATE SB is the only brake fluid that has boiled on me. If I had been...

Help me pick the correct SSD for my PC

Exactly. The 830, and to a lesser extent the 840Pro, have shown themselves to be as durable as many enterprise SLC drives, you just need to find the SSD Torture Test.

    Wheel weight vs tire weight

Always buy the lightest (quality) wheels you can afford, it's one of very few areas where you are literally upgrading every single aspect of the vehicle's performance, acceleration, braking, handling, and even ride quality. I have gone through countless sets of wheels, but I will never forget...

Help me pick the correct SSD for my PC

IME, Samsung MLC NAND drives are the best consumer drives, in terms of performance, data retention (cycles), quality, and pricing. I have quite a few, and the 830 is still one of my absolute favorite drives. The oldest, most used one is a 256GB 830 that has been used for HW RAID (HDD) NAND...

Where can I get some .22 Magnum Ammo

I am just curious, but what is the appeal of 22WMR for you guys? I guess personally, I have always felt it is somewhat of a solution seeking a question. I mean that because I don't really see the role it is designed to fill. However, I would love to see somethingllike that Kel-Tec 30rd 22wmr...

    Argument for Bigger Brakes

I have big (aka expensive) brakes on a couple of my cars, and while there is no question that there is a noticeable improvement in feel or modulation on the street, there is no performance benefits to be had until you are running tires that exceed the traction provided by all but the top 0.1...

    stainless steel brake lines

The lines from StopTech, after having used quite a few different manufacturers' products, are in my opinion the best you can get for the money. They are constructed just like the lines in the first link above, with the external polymer sealant, then the actual braided stainless steel strands...

    Higher VI = better MPG?

Personally, fuel economy is at the bottom of the list of things that matter to me in an oil. Oil is designed, first and foremost, to protect the engine (via proper lubrication), and I would much rather have a pperfect engine than an extra 1-2 percent increase in economy.

"The CVT: Learn it and Love it"

"Not all cars have throttles (I believe the S54)" Well, having spent a lot of time under the hood and inside my M3's S54, they most certainly do have throttles. In fact, I replaced the factory individual throttle bodies with bored ITB's when I was installing the CSL CF induction setup. Sorry...

Importing a car from the UK

My European market BMW's were bought already having been brought into the country by someone else, it's way too much of a hassle and significant an expense that I'd want to do it myself... FWIW, my Euro M6 documentation shows that the PO spent almost 10 large to get plates on the car

    Bought a 223

Barrett 50's are fun, but make for an expensive range day @ even dealer costs (over $5 a round for basic stuff, $10+ for fun stuff). I have to give the nod to AI for their 338LM rifles tho. Not cheap, but my AWSM (when shot by a friend and former former Scout Sniper instructor, currently...

    Bought a 223

Being a former FFL/CII dealer, I can say with absolute certainty that the gun cost well over $250 for the dealer. There's simply no debate. We did a lot of custom work on Savages, although I prefer Surgeon for barrels (preference). Beautiful rifle, overk1ll! Next purchase, it's time for you...

How Get Shortest Braking Distance on Ice With ABS?

I love the irony of winter, in that every time it snows, the only cars I see in ditches are SUV's. Just remember that everyone thinks they're a good/great driver, and remind yourself that you aren't (I am not, no way... I say this even with countless track miles, numerous victories, and what...

Seeing dead stock high mileage cars...

I am with the "Fbody poster" a bit up the page, because for the cars I buy and the community of enthusiasts I am involved in, there are absolutely some modifications that are a desirable thing for many (especially those knowledgeable about the cars). For example, two identical M3's, 2006 model...
