2015 2.5L Camry Oil Consumption Question

Probably the reason you are using more oil is that Toyota is now using lower tensile strength piston rings to accomodate the thinner oils. They just don't seal as good however. This leads to oil consumption. Is there anything you can do? Doesn't seem like it. Here is a link that descibes the...

Marine gear lube vs auto gear lube

Does anyone know the difference between marine gear lube and automotive gear lube? Both of these I'm looking at are the same brand, same rated viscosity, and are both GL-5 rated. The marine version is about a buck more per quart.

    All IC engines burn oil...

While we are splitting hairs, I wonder how much oil gets consumed on a dip stick rag everytime the oil is checked. I'm sure not much on one check, but if someone were obsessive and checked it very frequently, it would probably add up over the course of an oil change interval. That might be...

Do filters have a shelf life?

I think I'll just chunk them. I have no idea how old they are but I don't think Walmart has offered Super Tech filters in several years.

Do filters have a shelf life?

I was cleaning out the garage and I found 2 Super Tech oil filters in perfect condition. Do yall think that they would degrade over time? I'm thinking about the adhesives or filter media.

It will likely be short trips with an occasional road trip thrown in. I would estimate about 15K miles a year.

Here is another question for you. The next door neighbor just bought a 2005 Toyota Tacoma V6 to commute to work in. It has about 180,000 miles and it doesn't appear that it was well taken care of by the previous owner. Under the oil cap looks a little crusty but it runs very good. You think an...
