Any of 0w40 oils superior to compitition.

Lots of BITOG love for Mobil 1 0W-40 and Castrol Edge "Belgian" 0W-40. Great performance, especially for the price.

ok until oil change 4.7 dodge

It's fairly common for oil pressure senders to get wonky on those when they get old. Plus its right by the oil filter...maybe you knocked it with the filter wrench and finished it off?

Chrysler 42LE - avoid synthetic gear lubes

I'd like to pick your collective brains. I picked up a Chrysler 300M with the 42LE automatic in it. It has a transmission and hypoid final drive in a common case, but with separate fluid reservoirs for each. The owners manual states specifically "use 80w-90 GL5 gear lube in the differential...

    80 Hypoid?

Straight EP80 used to be recommended by OEMs as the cold weather alternative to EP90, but I think it went the way of the dodo once multigrades came about. Flying by the seat of my pants, I'd fill it with 80w90 and call it a day.

Does it mention country of origin anywhere? Looks reasonably well made.

With a lot of highway driving the DPF will need fewer regens.

    2014-2016 Pentastar Cartridge filter question.

If you insert the new style filter into the housing and seat it, it should close the drainback port and allow you to pre-fill. This seems to somewhat cut down on cap breakage too. The oil pump on the Pentastar is a monster; it flows so much that your engine will never notice the difference...

Do you like new vehicles styling direction?

While there are some attractive cars out, I'd say generally I'm not a fan. They've become too fussy and busy looking. I'm much more a fan of the streamlined look of ~20-25 years ago. The 92 Cadillac Seville will always be among my favorites. 94 Jaguar XJ and 98 Chrysler LHS were both very pretty...

    Addiction And Sobriety.....

I have not struggled with alcohol as others have, but I know a few people who have. All of them swear that sobering up was the best move they've ever made, and that AA removed a lot of the stigma. Congrats on your first month!

    16 Triumph Bonneville Line Up

They took the engine from a free-revving 865 to a big, slow 1200...judging by the torque figures. Water cooling. Huge radiator. I'll reserve my real judgement for when all the specs come out, but all I see is a fatter bike with worse gas mileage and a less exciting engine.

PH3614 filter and its analogues fading out?

The 3/4-16 thread was the standard for decades - I use a 3614 variant on my 74 MG. It's not going away.

    Points Gap and Dwell

Well, I did a right awful job explaining myself, and my edit time expired Let me try again. If you have a digital multimeter that reads duty cycle, that will read dwell for you. As others have said, shoot for 54-60 degrees for a 4 cylinder if you don't know the manufacturer's spec. The meter...

    Points Gap and Dwell

If you have a digital multimeter that reads duty cycle, that will read dwell for you. As others have said, shoot for 55-60 degrees for a 4 cylinder if you don't know the manufacturer's spec. Edit: Whoops, it's a 3 cylinder. Going by the 'old math', that would put you at 75-80 degrees.

newb mechanic - brake issues round 2

Use some heat on that stuck fitting (carefully). Don't apply anything to the new fitting. Flared brake fittings work best all by themselves. Since the vehicle is 28 years old, I assume the other brake lines are too. By that time, treat all lines as if they are bad, especially rubber ones...

Is health care still going up in price?

It sure is. When Obamacare passed we at work all saw an immediate 35% increase. Now, (as of 1st October), they will be dropping our PPO for an HMO with worse coverage, and my rates will increase an additional 50%. I will now officially be able to buy similar private insurance for basically the...

    Late model AWD Astro/Safari thoughts?

I had a 95 model AWD for many years. Parents bought it new, I bought it off them at 65k miles and drove it to a little over 100k. Sold it in 2011. Factory exhaust wasn't much to write home about. Rusted out in 4 years. Replacement systems averaged 3-4. Sidebar: a flow-through muffler helped...
