Strange Exhaust System Putty / Gasket Maker

Thanks guys. That's what I'm thinking eljefino - I checked my exhaust manifolds and the Orange Loctite RTV never burned off. Seems like it's holding up OK. Re: Exhaust Manifold Flange Willix, the high temp exhaust manifold gaskets can go on dry, but when the engine is removed on a stand, and...

Strange Exhaust System Putty / Gasket Maker

I called them, they said it was "muffler cement". What is this stuff? Can it work on the exhaust manifold flange to Cylinder Head. I asked the mechanic and he said you can, you can put it over gaskets too to ensure a good seal. Wonder if this stuff is any better than the 700 F Loctite Copper RTV.

Strange Exhaust System Putty / Gasket Maker

When I got back my Honda from the garage, I notice they used a strange putty or gasket maker in between the CAT & Resonator pipe. I don't know if they used this IN PLACE of the actual donut gasket, but does anyone know what this stuff is? It dried REALLY hard when I touched it. It was grey...

    Shell Rotella T Synthetic 5W-40 replacing 5W-30

    Why Does Time Affect OCI

    Shell Rotella T Synthetic 5W-40 replacing 5W-30

I've found this synthetic oil that should still have more ZDDP in it than regular SM oils. The Nissan Maxima 1994 Service Manual says that 5W-30 SG is preferred. Can this 5W-40 be used as a replacement so I don't have to buy an SM oil with those little additive bottles? Can the 5W-40 do damage...

    Why Does Time Affect OCI

Thanks everyone - this clears up the issue. Reason I'm asking is because i'm on 6000KM OCI (3 Mo.) right now, and I want to switch to AMSOIL SERIES 3000 5W30 Syn, to put in my 93 Nissan Maxima, as this has higher ZDDP than SM. They state OCI of 1 yr for severe service and 24,000 KM. I'm going...

    Why Does Time Affect OCI

Can someone explain to me why they say for eg. 12,000 KM or 6 MONTHS Whatever comes first. How is it that the time affects the OCI, when oil can be sitting in containers for 5 yrs and not degrade much. Why is it that as soon as it goes in the engine we are on the 6 Months count down?

    Undercoating my own car..

The POR-15 won't work for rust proofing. It's just paint. It's a rust preventative paint. And rust can still be active under the paint. Check it in a few yrs. As well, the rust will continue on the other side of the metal, where one could spray rust proof with an attachment to get the back side...

    Undercoating my own car..

Good to see this topic re-opened guys. I'm going to do my next experiment in the spring with the Gear Oil, we'll see how this goes. Used engine oil is still working for me with the mixed marine grease (melted in a walmart tea kettle). And what's with this kids post from Florida - trying to...

    Substitute for Marvel Mystery Oil

I saw the fogging oil guys in the spray can. Are you saying I just aim the can into the gas tank filler neck and empty out the bottle into the gas? Or it could be easier to spray it into one of those red gas cans I guess and mix it with some gas?

What do you think of COOLANT DRAINS/REFILLS ???

As you drain it out the bottom of the rad, a small portion (maybe a liter) will be trapped in the block still. You get that out by filling the rad again through the top with tap water. Put the cap loosely on so air can get out, turn the car on, wait until you feel warm upper hose, then turn off...

    Substitute for Marvel Mystery Oil

Does anyone know of a substitute or name a few, as MMO is discontinued now in Canada. I'll be using it (along with Sta-bil) for fogging. Adding it to the gas tank of my Nissan Maxima for storage.

Is SM Backwards Compatible with SG

Notice on the SuperTech 5W-30 bottle, it doesn't list SG in the specifications. Only SM, SL, SJ. The 93 Maxima service manual says to use SAE 5W30 SG Rated. Here's something I found on the ratings: PETROL SG - Introduced 1989 has much more active dispersant to combat black sludge. SH -...

    Fogging oil usage?

Mechtech, are you sure it's safe to run MMO through the injectors like that? I remember when replacing the shoddy Maxima injectors, the holes were like pin holes, at the pintle cap. Wouldn't the MMO just clog the injectors?
