OC Today, Broken K&N - Leak Oil

Never found K&N to be of stellar quality...just heavily overpriced. I have used their stuff- oil and air. Of course, the last time I used their air and oil filters was 5-6 years ago.

    bought my first Toyota today

Super reliable, Those old Camrys were solid cars...and they still are. What oil is recommended for those- 5w30 or 10w40 maybe?

    Pennzoil Conventional : 5k?

I use PYB at times and as with any conventional, I will not go much over 5,000 miles unless I am doing all highway driving, but 5,000 is a good OCI.

Engine noise after oil filter replacement

If it can be shown that the filter damaged the engine and the filter was recomended for that car/engine, then Champion may be pushed to cover the damage.

Engine noise after oil filter replacement

Sounds like this is a Champion Labs filter. While I do not think they are as good as a WIX or Baldwin filter, they should be decent and appropriate for any vehicle. Was it a filter model recommended for your vehicle? That is the first thing to confirm. If so, it looks better for you. Others here...

    Pennzoil Ultra?

True, PU is about the best oil out there. I am religious about changing oil so I have the luxury of using any of the good ones I choose to. PU and GC are probably my top two.

    Pennzoil Ultra vs Amsoil XL

Castrol leaves engines dirty? Maybe in the hallways of AMSOIL HQ...

    Pennzoil Ultra?

If your engine is clean and you see no varnish, I personally would focus more on protection and wear than extra cleaning ability. I am not the guy who goes 15,000-20,000 between changes...not with anything. M1, PU, Synpower, will all protect well. If you go extended drains, the first two seem to...

Recommend a little SUV or wagon for my wife.

Subaru Forester without a doubt. Great AWD, excellent reliability, and back seats fold perfectly flat. I get 26-29 MPG. Mine (2006) has 96,000 miles and has been 100% reliable. The new ones are quieter, roomier, and smoother.

Greetings from Arabia Desert ( SL vs GF-5)

I doubt this is true. Motocraft is an excellent oil and while Castrol is too, it is not synthetic in any part and I bet there is a lot of fake Castrol in that market as well. Stick with the Motorcraft!

Opinions needed on oil filter selection

Well, Baldwin makes excellent filters too. Does it have the combo valve? If not, stick with the NAPA Gold (WIX, I think).

    Pep Boys......

Autozone is probably the best of breed. Then with Advance Auto, NAPA, and O'Reilly's, it must not be easy to compete. Plus, it seems like their stores here are huge, and the employees not as efficient. There are a lot of employees and many to chill out quite a bit...unlike all the others I go...

    Official Toyota Oil Recommendation Chart

No, I was thinking about 0W20 for some reason. I don't think the lighter viscosity of 5W20 will be an advantage in my case. I could see a benefit using 0W20 or 0W30 in really cold climates. I would not use 5W20 over my 5W30. I'd use 0W30 over 0W20 (in really cold climates) unless I could see...

Pennzoil Ultra is what I would choose.

    Wiper Recommendations

I find Toyota wipers to beat them all, so it's all I use on my 4Runner. The Subaru wipers are pretty good too, so I use the OEMs. I have used so many that were not half as good...Trico, Rain-X, some [censored] Michelin one, etc. The most expensive fancy ones were less than mediocre. The Pylons...

    2000 Subaru Outback oil/filter reccomendation

It is the same filter- probably the "5" is replaced by "8" for the CarQuest #. The bypass PSI listed was what you mentioned but the Subaru calls for 23 or so. Not sure what difference that makes in real life, though I have a huge supply of black filters I'll use up and then go to the new Subaru...

    Official Toyota Oil Recommendation Chart

Let's say you have two weights of the same brand. You have Edge 5W30 and 5W20. Does one have more film strength that the other? Does the 5W30 shear down to a 20 anyway? My 4Runner V8 is super easy on oil. I have been using 5W30. I see no reason to switch to 5W20 but was curious to know about...

1998 LS400 Oil Turns Dark Quickly

My Subaru does it sooner- probably by 2,000 miles. It also revs ar almost 2,900 RPM at 70 MPH. My V8 4Runner revs at about 2,100 RPM at 70 MPH and does not turn oil dark till 5,000 miles. Maybe higher-revving and higher-compression engines do it quicker. I'm sure there are several reasons. I do...

Honda Accord 1997 (165,000 miles) bad varnish

Will keep an eye on the car through her. She already works two jobs now...one full-time regular and one on weekends. Her situation will slowly improve now that she has the second job. She has really bad rheumatoid arthritis so till it was under control, she could not take another job where she...
